( 001; video )

[ It's very hard to mistake Soranik for anyone who's been in the City for any length of time even ignoring the red skin. Her outline glows a bright green and the background of the feed is clearly space - stars and all. After trying to get back to her own sector and finding that it and Oa no longer exist, well, she's out of options for the time being. ]

My name is Doctor Soranik Natu, Green Lantern of Space Sector 1417. If those words are familiar to anyone - I want to speak with you.

[ Her determined expression falls as she rubs her temples - the past few hours have been exhausting, to say the least. And she really needs to catch up on a few hours of sleep. ]

I don't have time for this, but it doesn't take much to guess everyone who arrives here shares the sentiment at the beginning. The brochures were sufficient in overview but lacking in any sort of depth - anyone willing to expand upon them would be appreciated. [ A pause. ] And since I'm going to be stuck here, I'm going to need a job. Preferably as a neurosurgeon, but general medicine will be acceptable.

[ So she's a workaholic - some things don't change. There's one more thing to be addressed, however. ]

And whoever drew this [ Panning the video feed showing the giant dick drawn on the surface of the moon. It's new to her, and also hard to ignore if you're floating around in space. ] I'm sure you've already been congratulated on clever you are.

Sector 1417? Whereabouts is that, exactly? [Sounds like a slightly different classification system than any he's used to. Abby would've known about this sort of thing better.]
professorlionface: (You're sure about that?)

[He spends a few moments studying the projection, trying to work out the relative positions.]

Hmm. Not an area I think I'm familiar with off the top of my head. I assume it's inhabited?
professorlionface: (Wait till I tell Facebook about it!)

Ah, that would have been my next question. So, I take it you aren't from my universe, though it's a curious thing to hear that the cosmology would be so different.

Where are my manners? I'm Dr. Henry McCoy. Welcome to the City, Dr. Natu. Or at least the universe it resides in.
professorlionface: (Let me ask you...)

Oh, you know, pretty much like anywhere. You have your various political lines drawn and they interact according to their individual agendas. I was a science officer in Earth's space response department.
professorlionface: (Can't be overly concerned at the moment!)

Well, we had the Nova Corps that would usually intervene in larger conflicts, but for the most part beyond that you only had your handful of larger empires. Most of them have collapsed by now, those left with any particular power being the Kree, Shi'ar, and the Majesdanians.

Our primary purpose at S.W.O.R.D. of course was more local, defense from without, defense from outward actions of our own, and immigration and integration. That was a big enough job as it is, I can't imagine what it would be like to manage an entire universe!

Ah, you caught that. From what I hear, their central power source was negated, which kind of decommissions their entire force. I know there are free agents out there to answer whatever call may go out, but nothing really centralized, as far as I'm aware.

Abby would probably have more information, if she were here. I haven't been home in a year now and even then I'd stepped down to a consultant so I could help run a school on the surface. All the same, if we could all self-police ourselves, I think the universe might be a kinder place. Bit of a pipe dream, of course.

[He places his thumb on the end of his muzzle in thought.] What makes me really curious is that we have three universes to compare here, but only one common element we can find between them!
professorlionface: (What was I thinking?)

video;

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-02-18 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Most of them, at least. There may be exceptions here or there, but they're just that, exceptions. It's probably related to the odd state of fiction in this universe, come to think of it. But no one really wants to think about that.

[He looks a little more tentative, running a hand through his mane.] But yes, Abigail. She's the commander of S.W.O.R.D. and...well, I was kind of her main squeeze. Though that "was" isn't quite as deliberate as the previous "had".
professorlionface: (I'll explain this slowly.)

video;

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-02-19 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Some people are lucky, their loved ones arrive here, as well. And I certainly have friends here, [Some of whom may be dead beyond it.] but...I haven't seen her in a year.

Something to get used to, one thing we all have in common no matter where we come from, the people here may recognize us from works of fiction. Not every story will have been as popular as others, of course, so you may not be exactly a household name. And none of the stories exist any longer, I suppose Lachesis doesn't want us reading about ourselves.

The only explanation I have for it is that some ideas must communicate themselves across the cosmos, and this world intersects the path of all those wavelengths, but beyond that it's just...well, a little weird.

You learn to deal with it. There isn't much other choice. [And then some space lady shows up and they get to talking about space and it's all he can think about.]

It's hard to really gauge the details, as whatever stories they had are no longer present. I've never really gone so far as to ask anyone about it, but I try not to walk anywhere near comic book stores, assuming they even exist anymore.

I hear we've mostly killed that industry, and some of them are still bitter about it.

Oh, easily. We get enough of that from just being in various relative timepoints to one another. Some things just weren't meant for us to know before their proper time.

[And honestly those are probably both major reasons the canons disappear to begin with.]
professorlionface: (If you'll direct your attention here...)

video;

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-02-22 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives her a nod.] Of course, Dr. Natu. I hope you settle in easily enough, even if this planet's all the universe has to offer you.
professorlionface: (It's really quite simple.)

video;

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-02-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it definitely can be, but for the most part it seems a bit quieter than home! ...Which really just says more about home, I think.
professorlionface: (I find myself brimming with thoughts.)

I don't know about looming, [Because he doesn't know about the one just around the corner.] but I wouldn't call it exactly a rarity, either.

It's more of a regular thing on my world, something we've come to accept and deal with as it arises. It isn't as common here, but they're far less integrated to it, as well.

This Earth never knew superheroes until imPorts started pouring in five years ago or so.
