☠ [Voice] Fourteen oh eight

So a mention of birthdays got me wondering; what do you people do here to celebrate your day of coming into the world that might be different from back home? Or do you just do the same thing you would do back home?

Also kind of curious how you guys figure your age if you're from long before this time and off by months. Do you consider yourself older on the day that is rightfully your birthday or do you wait until the full twelve months has come to pass? [This is her weird way of trying to find out the birthday of some people she knows, assuming they respond.]

[Private to Gilbo]
You free on Sunday?

Honestly? I tend to forget all about them! Then I'll look up a week or so later and realize I'm a whole year older. Once you hit thirty they stop being so special, and maybe a bit more on the dreadful side.

Busy? Possibly. Less excited? Probably. Absentminded? I'm not going to rule it out!

I suppose it simply reaches the point where it stops looking like a landmark of further experience under your belt and more one more tick to a countdown moving in reverse. But I'm probably too young to be thinking of it like that just yet.
professorlionface: (Wouldn't that be nice?)

[He chuckles slightly.] Well, that's how you know that you're still under thirty, I guess.
professorlionface: (All the way up there?)

Because we're all afraid of being caught in the consequences of irresponsibility, I suppose. I'm not even four years in yet, and here I've already bought into the idea without questioning it!

You can still have fun, but what looks fun in your early twenties rarely seems as appealing even five years after, much less ten.
professorlionface: (Can't be overly concerned at the moment!)

Time, I'm afraid, is simply one of the inevitabilities of life.

Well, maybe you can salvage some of them, but some level of change is necessary to mature.
professorlionface: (Might I just add...)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-04-19 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not if you give yourself small ways in which to lapse from it! Personally, I like hanging upside down.
professorlionface: (Upside-down smile!)

Sure! I mean, that one won't work for everyone, I have a particular sense of balance specific to my mutation that enables it, but it's the principle of the matter.

It's a small thing that brings me some modicum of joy. Inconvenient as my powers they can be at times, they also offer me that sense of freedom, that little, silly thing that I can do for no reason whatsoever other than that I enjoy it. You just need to find your analogue.
professorlionface: (Well this is pleasant.)

I think it's part of growth, really, that as we progress through life we focus in on the things that truly matter to us, that hold that meaning in our hearts, to keep as our personal treasures.
professorlionface: (So it would seem.)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-04-20 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He makes a somber grunt, a small thoughtful noise of understanding.]

It rarely will be. But it's usually not about what matters most, as it is what we can do on our own to keep ourselves happy. [Or, if he wants to sugarcoat it a little less:] The things that keep us sane.
professorlionface: (Just wait till I unleash my master plan!)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-04-20 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a fleeing feeling! You have to hold tight to it, or it will slip away.
professorlionface: (Take heart! Learning is beyond compare.)

[personal profile] professorlionface 2013-04-21 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely! Tie it up in the backyard where it has plenty of space, maybe leave a few toys out for it, feed it twice a day. It'll jump up to lick your face every now and again, but that's a point of endearment more than anything else.

Either that, or I'm recommending you get a dog. Whether or not the two are mutually exclusive still remains to be seen.
