This is going to be one of those posts where somebody says they're obviously pretending it's not them they're talkin' about -- so let's just get that out of the way. I'm talkin' about me and I'm talkin' about a girl. There. That shit's over.

Now -- for the important stuff: So, what do you do when you get a hate crush confession and you-- you're not sure you reciprocate it entirely like that, but you sure reciprocate somethin'? Cause this troll quadrant stuff and the piles and all, it's confusing, but...

Look, I'm a giant turtle, I got no room to talk about weird here.

So -- smart guys and gals and trolls and everything else: The hell do I do now? I like her. I like winding her up and I like fightin' with her and I like beating people up with her and I like what we do. I just don't know if that's what she's looking for.

Kismesis is freakin' hard.

Of what quality are the feelings you believe yourself capable of reciprocating?

[Raph swaps to video for this; he blinks at Kanaya for a moment. It's only polite, right?]

She's got my respect-- and we drive each other hard, I know that. And I give as good as I get when she-- heh-- trolls me. We aggravate the crap out of each other and keep coming back for more. Don't really know what to call it.

[It's hard to explain, though, for a guy like Raph. He is the least in tune with his feelings ever, because feelings can't be punched into submission.]

That seems rather close to ebony affections, by my standards. I would encourage further pursuit.

No lectures about not being advanced enough?

Well, I'm not certain how normal such an arrangement may be for your species, but your approach thus far has shown you to be far less volatile than her previous prospects.

I should perhaps allow you to better display what sort of person you are, if I'm to ultimately approve of you as a quadrantmate to my moirail, but the fact that you don't immediately display repulsive traits is promising.

Perhaps you'll do me the favor of expounding further on the subject of yourself?

Man, nothing's normal for -- us. There's just-- myself, my father, and my three brothers. That's-- we're not normal for our species. Not the average, heh, 'shellbeast'.

We're-- not like you guys, we're not like humans. We were accidents. Uhm. My father taught us what we needed to know to survive, and we do -- we hide from humans on our world, 'cause there are billions of them and just the five of us... so we don't really have a culture like -- you guys do. We just live off what humans don't need or want, and steal the rest. We don't gotta do that here, though. [listen he's proud of not having to steal if he doesn't have to.]

But-- you mean, about me? Personally? [He -- is a little bit wary, and the least in touch with his feelings ever, but he can try, as he does like Terezi a whole bunch, in his odd, borderline kismesis way.] I'm just that guy that gives her crap, and gets crap back. I work on cars. I beat up stupid people who break the laws and keep the peace, but I ain't no cop and I ain't a killer, either. She thinks that's a little weird, but-- [small shrug]

And you're-- her moiral-- That's the ... friendly one. Or at least, you're real close to her, right? We talked a little about the other quadrants and 'serendipity' a little.

Don't underestimate it, moirallegiance is itself a form of romance that transcends simple friendship by far. The purpose is for us to complement each other to make a healthier and more productive pair than we could present individually.

[ she tilts her head, considering what he's said ] The preoccupation with justice is a trait I expect she'd admire, though I'm uncertain how a proper rivalry could be inflamed through it. Kismeses must, by definition, be at odds with one another, which may be difficult to achieve when they work toward a similar purpose. [ she pauses a moment ] Would you still hesitate to employ fatal means, I must ask, if the situation arose where they would be appropriate? I recognize that not all criminals will necessarily be deserving of it, but...there are cases when it is the most pragmatic option.

Huh. Like... platonic soulmates? [He's thinking on this, listening hard-- for whatever reason, Terezi is important to him; he's a young man in the throes of his first awkward relationship of any type -- and it's complicated by two nonhumans as opposed to just one.]

My master's taught me all life is sacred, and that killing is-- a necessity, sometimes, but one that must be carefully weighed. [So that's-- probably a yes.] It's not a casual matter for any of us.

Well, platonic insofar as that the arrangement is not meant to ultimately result in any sort of attempt at reproduction. But platonic itself is a word that perhaps doesn't quite convey the romance inherent to the pairing.

I would consider it naive to think that fatal maneuvers are never necessary, though I suppose I would agree that it cannot be employed in all cases. Generally, my guideline is that one who unjustly takes another life under my protection, in doing so, forfeits their own.

You guys sure have a lot of romance for people with horns and really sharp teeth.

[Just sayin'. He's mostly amused by it.]

Yeah, that's-- a pretty good line to take. My master trained us to avenge his master; beyond that, it's up to us decide what is worthy of our attention and what isn't.

He didn't expect-- or want-- us to guard the streets. But-- [but it gives him an outlet for the rage, more than a sense of justice, really-- but he can't admit that] it gets done anyway.

What is it, do you think, which has inspired such action within you?

[That makes him-- fidget. Worry. He doesn't quite know how to handle that answer; finally he settles on a non-answer.]

It's personal.

[He didn't come to it from some noble drive to protect or some need for justice. He started because it was better than cracking his brother's skull open in a fit of rage.]

[ kanaya might actually relate to that, being more of the sort to exact vengeance without remorse than to seek justice, but as strangers, they aren't about to discuss it with each other now ]

As so many things tend to be. Perhaps it isn't my place to pry.

[In time, he'll want to know Terezi's kith and kin; Kanaya is important to her, so in a way, she's become important to Raph to know.]

Nah, it's okay. You just-- want to know she's not with someone who isn't-- going to hurt her? Or at least, make her crazy in the wrong ways.

It's a relationship founded in hate, desiring pain to be inflicted upon her for the eventual fulfillment of your own pleasure is simply a part of the expression which must be expected.

However, should this go beyond a level I find acceptable, you can rest assured who you will answer to as a result.

Is that a really polite way of saying 'hurt her in wrong way and I'll fuck you up'?

[She's just so nice. Well, spoken. Eloquent, even. This means she's either a complete push over...]

If you reject her, that will be your prerogative. I'll manage the fallout as I can, but I don't believe I could bear you any ill will.
