Isn't it shocking how people stay in this City?

[ Asks the Shade, who is in his study as usual, his comm set far enough away for him to rest comfortably and his dinner and fine drink to the side of him in plain view. He looks moderately amused with pretty much... everything right about now. ]

Or even, how we seem to keep gravitating back here? What is it about this place that encourages us to stay? What about it is so unique?

Or if you prefer, perhaps you could tell me what about this world makes it unusual compared to your own? Call it curiosity, if you will.

Well it was simply given to me, I may as well make use of it for something.

The mundane only, I'm afraid. Responsibilities are difficult to find in this City.

It's been more than a year and I have yet to find something worthy of my time and effort. You'll be seeking distractions for a long time.

A practice I'm more than used to already, I will admit.

Don't tell me you were in the same state back in your own world.

I'm afraid so. Littered, from time to time, with something of interest, of course.

No long-term goals?

Other than to see my city flourish? I suppose I could attempt to amass wealth in this world, but I find the culture does not quite approve of my methods like they once did.

A lot of things have changed these past few centuries. I'm surprised you're acclimating so quickly. [She thinks he legit came directly from the 19th century.]

It has been my great pleasure to watch the world change around me as the years passed. There's little to acclimate to.

[curses]

[A raised eyebrow.] And how many years have passed, exactly?

Around two-hundred, or so. You'll forgive me for not being exact, I hope?

[She purses her lips in mock disdain.] Just this once. Though I do admit you look good for your age.

One of the merits of being an immortal, I suppose. Perpetual boredom, but at least I still have the ability to turn a head or two.

Don't you think you're taking your immortality a tad for granted? [she knows a certain someone who would literally do anything for it]

For granted? Hardly!

There does come a time, however, when something new would be a marvel.

I can't imagine that being brought to another universe is something that happens to you often.

[foreshadower]

Indeed not, but it would be much more enjoyable if I were able to return to my Opal at the end of the day, or perhaps even the week, at most.

An extended stay here is rather inconvenient. This place is essentially a glorified prison -- we're to stay here for an indefinite period of time whether we like it or not.
