What's the most beautiful place you've ever seen? Or been, I suppose. It's one thing to see a place in a painting or picture, but something else to actually be there.

[she smiles, and lifts the notebook slightly.]

And I must admit, I could use the inspiration.

Mmm...there was this field full of trees and flowers just outside of the cave where Mother's tower was. I remember when I first saw it I just ran and ran through it, it was so amazing.

Why didn't you leave?

Mother said...well, she wasn't my mother...but anyway, Mother said that it was too dangerous for me to go outside, people would want to hurt me and steal my hair.

[mothers and their ideas of danger. gemma frowns.]

I know what that's like--sort of. My mother wouldn't send me to a proper school in London for so long. But, ah--your hair?

I eventually had to run away to go outside. Well, I was going to come back...

Hrm.

[She smiles sheepishly.]

I have magic hair.

Why would you go back?

Magic hair. And what, pray tell, does your magic hair do?

Well...it was home.

[She grins.]

...Glows when I sing? And heals, which is more useful but somehow less impressive.

[She just likes glowing.]

Ah, that is as good a reason as any, I suppose.

That's... incredible. [she doesn't know what else to say about it] Would that I could do something so remarkable.

It's not that incredible...

[She just looks embarrassed.]

What do you do?

A bit of illusion, is all. [and flight and slight mind-control and dream walking and an entire slew of other things that she won't talk about]

Illusion? [Well that sounds interesting.]

So you can make things appear that aren't really there?

I can. [she lifts her hand to her throat and immediately, a choker studded with amethysts appears]

[Rapunzel is suitably impressed.]

That's amazing! Does it feel real?

It most certainly does.

That sounds very useful, honestly...

It can be, so long as it's kept under control.

Well, sometimes magic can get a bit wild.

...Oh. I didn't know that, I mean...what happens?

[She's looking at her hair curiousity, trying to imagine it going wild.]

Sometimes illusions can appear without prompting.

[paints_lanterns]

Oh! [Well that certainly sounded strange.] Do you...know they're illusions?
