one: text -> video

[this starts off as text because there is a keyboard and Harry knows how to type.]

Right, I've read the pamphlets near that blasted machine, but can someone please explain to me why I was chosen? I'm hardly a hero, you'll want someone more along the Doctor's lines th

[the text switches off, as Harry accidentally manages to nudge it to video. you get a close-up of Harry, looking down at they keyboard and typing in a decidedly hunt-and-peck manner before he notices that the camera is on.]

Oh! Why hello there...I didn't know they made cameras this small. [a pause while he stares at the camera-then smiles slightly.] Anyway chaps, my name's Harry Sullivan, formerly of the Royal Navy now working with UNIT. I don't suppose any of you have seen a man called Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart around here, have you?

[There are British people who actually talk like on those old television shows? Cor blimey.]

Sorry, never heard of the guy, or of UNIT. We've had a buncha doctors, including one who went by the definite article, but he got sent home a while back. Kinda jittery type, dressed about four decades older than his face?

[Spidey's used to that kind of reaction, especially from the newbies.]

A later what now?

[Beat.] You... get used to it.

[Weirdly enough, that's not a question he gets often. When people ask about his costume they usually want to know one of the following: (a) if he's colorblind (no), (b) if he sews them himself (yes), (c) if it rides up in the crotch (not... applicable.)]

Who said it's uncomfortable? This is highly specialized crime-fighting equipment, I'll have you know.

["Highly specialized" as in "sewn on the machine in his bedroom," naturally.]

No, not because of -- it's a secret identity. You know, like... [When is this guy from?] Zorro. Or the Scarlet Pimpernel. Do they have the Scarlet Pimpernel in your universe?

[He likes to dress up in a spandex one-piece and do battle against evil. What is so difficult to understand, here?!]

[Just looking at the screen for a long moment.]

Your yearbook superlative was "most likely to be referred to as a 'jolly good fellow,'" wasn't it.

So you're a doctor and yet you're looking for a doctor? The wisecracks make themselves.

I did hear you the first time.

Anyway, if we're thinking of the same guy, he's been gone for months. Doesn't mean he won't come back at some point, but only the Porter knows when or if.

Most of us boomerang in and out. You get used to it, though it's annoying if there's someone in particular you want to see.

So if you don't mind my asking -- when're you from? I mean, I'd know you for a Brit even if you hadn't namedropped the Royal Navy, but... you, uh, don't talk like any British guy I've met, if we're being honest.
incywincyhero: (spidey: so then I said)

Hey, nothing wrong with that -- some of the best guys I know are a few decades out of sync. [Beat.] And listen, if you ever meet a guy here named Logan, don't tell him I used the plural on that one, all right? He'd never let me live it down.

So you seem to be adjusting to this whole shindig pretty well. What, do they train for interdimensional kidnapping scenarios in the Royal Navy of the '80s? [Beat.] Or maybe I should be asking about this alphabet soup organization of yours.

Oh, so kinda like SWORD back home. [Beat.] Don't feel bad. Not every secret organization can have a cool acronym. Someone's gotta be the control group, right?
