Between poisoned spindles and general confusion and chaos, I suppose it's safe to say I fully believe the insistence that this place is quite crazy by now. It's only remotely amusing to hear about, not to experience for yourself.

I think my job search went over fairly well, considering the people I'd inquired to were very surprised how well I knew the workings of the business in general. The excuse that I'd once worked in the modeling industry in another country before was not technically a lie, after all. Not having existed here previously is difficult, but I don't see a problem in starting at the bottom and working myself back up again. It will take time, but I've found I have a lot more time on my hands now than before to use as I need to.

A general query: how have others fared in finding a new job or source of income here, if you had one before? Or a school, if you'd prefer?

Heh, good to know I have someone in support. They seemed a bit skeptical at first, but I think they decided it was worth letting me in a little at a time, and I don't intend to let them down.

I suppose that's one luxury about this place is that you aren't forced to show up at school anymore, even if you had been attending one at home.

Ah... I apologize. I practice physiognomy as a form of fortune-telling, and that skill seems to have been enhanced and turned into a power in its own right upon my being Ported into this place. I haven't managed to figure out how to control it fully yet, I'm afraid.

But I thought you might like to know that I get the sense that things will turn out well for you, though I can't say the vision was entirely clear.

I got lucky, there was a Japanese restaurant that was heiring when I arrived and no one really looked too far past me just being an immigrant, so it was really easy to get work! School... has been far more difficult, really!

It's really lucky you got a job like the one you had back home! That has to be really helpful!

I suppose I am lucky that they didn't ask for proof of immigration of some sort, though they might have if I hadn't worked them just right.

It will be far easier than trying something new, even starting at the very bottom. I enjoy my line of work, however, so I am looking forward to the challenge. I think it would be a smart thing to try and keep the fact that I don't belong here under wraps, as difficult a secret as that may become to keep.

I've also noticed a number of school-age kids who have been Ported in that don't seem to be in school currently. It's possible they haven't bothered... or perhaps they can't; I couldn't say.

Un, I lucked out with that too! Though I had my ID from home and the person at the office didn't check to make sure it all worked out, so I actually have proper documentation now!

And yeah, that's probably a good thing to do, just to be safe! You can always just say anything that you're unfamiliar with is just different than where you were before. People are really willing to beleive that, thankfully!

I think most of the people I know who are school aged and not in school-- in their own worlds, they wouldn't be in school, so they aren't interested in here. School isn't for everyone, after all!

I had my ID with me as well, though I suppose it does help when they don't match it up with a database in which there'd be no way you could possibly exist in. I'll have to see about getting documentation, myself.

That is true. I suppose it's more of a blessing than a curse for those who had been obligated to go previously.

If you go on Wednesdays, there's an old man who works one of the middle windows who's very nice. He likes to complain how the system doesn't work right and doesn't care for the computer much, so he won't put in the effort to actually check up on things, which is really helpful!

I'm sure they think that! And there is a school here that imports can go to, since I'm pretty sure it's run and staffed by all imports as well. So if someone does want to, they can go!

Yes... it's certainly very different from home. Both "worlds" are rather crazy in their own right, but they each have their own sort of flavor of crazy. This place seems to be more intense, and with less of a break between bouts of chaos.

I've been tempted to call it 'ordered chaos' but that doesn't quite fit either.

And I can certainly see why you would, minus the "ordered" part, I suppose.

I do feel somewhat sorry for those who have organized themselves into a makeshift police team, however. It must be extremely difficult with the volume of crazy events that occur here.

You've illustrated it right there. Just look at the police force, or whatever other groups people are forming. So quick to slip themselves into roles merely for the sake of a familiar structure.

Yes. I think I may be guilty of that as well, though; it felt awkward to not have the schedule I had at home, and to have so much time on my hands was oddly frustrating. So I can understand the comfort of having something familiar or routine.

I often hear doubts and sometimes even insults flying about regarding the "heroes" of this place, the ones that truly do try to help in their own way. It's hard to tell whether they're justified in harping on them, or whether they ought to give the groups and police force a break once in a while.

Or necessary. The City's expensive, and the stipend doesn't cover everything.

Everything's justified, just as everything's equally unjustified. All depends on your point of view, doesn't it?
