[this is gemma just stepping in from the cold. her cheeks are rosy red, her eyes are a bit watery from the wind, but overall, she doesn't look so bad. she's dressed rather jauntily, and looks absolutely pleased.]

I do so love Christmastime. One may set aside all their own worries for a bit and concentrate on making others happy. It's such a refreshing change.

[pause.]

What I mean to say is that one mustn't allow their own past to catch up with them at this time. Can't spoil the Christmas cheer and all that, you know.

[another pause. she sets aside her hand muff and takes off her beret, twirling it a bit around her finger.]

I do so wish Felicity and Ann were here to see this place. I'm sure it shall be absolutely lovely, once the snow comes. Could you believe that until a year ago, I'd never seen snow? Me, a British lady through and through, never having seen snow or experienced winter in London. It was absolutely absurd.

[her smiles curves a little mischievously, and her voice takes on an absolutely impish tone.]

I need hardly say that this place shan't be as much a bore as Spence during the Yuletide. Making Christmas ornaments out of cotton and tin foil was such a chore, after all, and I plan on doing nothing so silly this season.

And you may wish to watch those comments about Christmas ornaments. Angelica mentioned something about stringing popcorn earlier in the week and I imagine she'd love to hear about other seasonal crafts.

I suppose so. But I don't doubt they'd both relish the idea of such an adventure.

I'll have to watch my tongue, then. I don't want to give her any ideas.

Adventures are all well and good, and I do suppose this place has some redeeming value... Regardless, I don't know that I'd wish it on anyone.

[a pause. he doesn't know how to say this exactly.]

... As much as I love her, I'm rather dreading the experience.

Perhaps you are right. I should be sorry I ever thought it.

... Quite honestly, I haven't the slightest idea what to make of Christmas, Gemma. With the Avengers, I could simply retreat to my books and allow them their celebration. It was all quite festive, but held little meaning for me. Crystal and her people didn't celebrate it and I haven't given the holiday any thought in quite some time.

Apparently so. Angelica seems quite determined.

It's important to you, thus I'm happy to celebrate it. I merely don't understand quite what's so important about the day itself.

Does that mean I'm in charge of decorating your apartment?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I'll decorate somehow--just not with little soldier boys made of foil and cotton.

But I wouldn't mind assistance.

It's nice to know I'm not the only person in this place who likes Christmas.

Oh, he's just being contrary. He'll come to understand it soon enough.

I was going to pick up some lights and things. We could put them around one of the windows maybe?

I guess I'm just upset that he finds it all bothersome and silly. It's Christmas! It's an important part of my beliefs. And he thinks it's hypocritical and ridiculous.

I'm not sure yet. I'd like to do something, though. Or at least go somewhere.

Well, New York was always the place to be in Christmas...I guess I don't really know about 'the City.' Around here it seems like reindeer might attack or something.

Is it? I've usually been in India, and only in London once. Unfortunately, my time in the latter wasn't very festive. At any rate, I hope it shall be a good Yuletide.

What of you? Do you have plans?

Uh, not yet. I've never really...done the Christmas thing away from home. I'm not sure if I can even hang lights on the outside of the MAC or not.

Mine as well. I feel as if that might be something many people here might be experiencing this year.
