Eighth Inquiry [voice] BACKDATED TO 3AM

You now, there are some questions that you'll be unlikely to ever get an answer to you can share. Not entirely impossible, as this place has proven, but the usefulness of the information, how it may apply to anyone else, is always suspect.

I've got one in particular in mind, but the answers will probably be different between here and home, and there's good odds they'll vary from person-to-person.

But I'm using a lot of words to make a very simple inquiry. [sorry everyone, he probably hasn't slept in a few days] What do you think happens when you die? Or, at the very least, between when you die here and when she decides to bring you back?

I have my own thoughts, of course, but my answers aren't important right now. Just the question.

I assume they mess with a player's life force or something like that?

I'm not really too sure how they work, but they make the games real and have real consequences. Like with Monster World, if the Dark Master got a specific roll, the players would be sealed into their character figures. With no one to roll for them, they couldn't play any more, so they were trapped. And if they died in the game...

[[he trails off uncomfortably]]

And the person didn't even have to be playing for that to happen, since I don't think he got that gym teacher to play a game...

So, in other words, when they're in play, the game is no longer a game.

It's still a game. Just a very serious one with consequences.

One could say the stakes make all the difference.

But Games of Darkness are still called games. The rules don't change, just new ones get added.

Yeah, that sounds kind of like my poker days, come to think of it.

With the kind of gamblers I used to play against, the situation could turn to "life or death" at the drop of a hat.

Duel Monsters tournaments were like that back home. Even the one that started out normal enough turned into a mess of kidnapping and intricate death traps.

Sounds like a dangerous game. Was it worth it?

That one wasn't supposed to be dangerous. And the other... Yuugi-kun won back his grandfather's soul, so it was worth the danger for that.

And there's been a tournament here with nothing going wrong! So maybe it was just Domino that made everything happen.
