[Ianto looks somewhat worse for wear when he pops up on screen, especially for the white bandage on his forehead. But he doesn't look pained, just concerned.]

Has anyone seen or heard from Arthur? I haven't seen him since yesterday afternoon, and he didn't come into work this morning. I tried calling him a number of times, but I don't know if the calls aren't going through or if he just isn't picking up...or isn't able to.

I could. I'd considered it -- maybe not quite the whole city, but I've thought about having sex with other people...

[He'd considered it, he even flirted with Zatanna, which was nice, but it didn't change his desperation for Jack. He's only been here a month, and that's hardly enough time to move on from being in love, especially when the object of his affections is right there, not a ten minute walk away. And Jack may not know him and might be fucking a Legolas wannabe, but as awful as it makes him feel, it hasn't stopped him from wanting Jack. The whole thing is an emotional house of cards, and the last thing he wants is to make it more complicated.]

[There's a pause, the clear sound of someone taking a nice, long drag off a cigarette]

Love makes you pathetic.

Maybe. But it's worth it.

What part of this is worth it? The part that hurts or the part that will hurt more?

[There's a quiet consideration]

Play the desire like a harp. Don't let love trick you into thinking that this connection is something worth pursuing.

[He swallows hard, squeezing his eyes shut briefly, but his resolve isn't nearly so easy to erode completely. Not in one go.]

But it is worth pursuing. I know it is, because I had it before and it was worth everything to me. If it all ends in tears, I'll survive the hurt. I'll move on. But if it doesn't, then I'll have him, and nothing in the world feels better than that.
