Does anyone know if Edna Mode is still around? I haven't heard her on the network in awhile. Last time she was here she made me boots I could wear all winter and still see with, mostly, but they're getting pretty torn up and my feet got a bit bigger.

I need new boots that keep my feet warm, but they can't be thick.

Stupid cold.

Whenever's most convenient for you should serve adequately, and I'm easily capable of traveling to whatever preferred rendezvous point you may decide upon.

But perhaps it would be proper to introduce myself, as such a meeting would feel somewhat rude were that aspect taken for granted. I'm Kanaya.

Oh, I'm Toph. Toph Bei Fong. And I can get pretty much anywhere. How about Central Park? There's a fountain with a really huge statue on it at Columbus Circle on the edge. I go there a lot.

[ yeah basically any sentence of hers tends to be a mouthful ]

The gentleman carrying the shield? I believe I've seen it, yes.

When would you prefer this to be accomplished?

Well, if you're not preoccupied at the moment, then something more immediate could be entirely within reason! I was only now taking a short break from certain other projects, but I wouldn't have any qualms extending that.

Oh, cool. That'd be perfect. I'll head on over that way now.

[She'll just be sitting on the fountain's edge with both hands palm down on the stone. That way she can still keep an 'eye' on the surroundings even though her feet - clad in less perfect shoes that really do muffle her sight quite a bit - aren't touching the ground.

The boots in question are on the fountain next to her.]

[ kanaya would have arrived first, having simply stepped through a portal to arrive at her destination immediately, and took the time to to backread her comm for a video of what the girl she was seeking even looked like, maybe take a short walk and enjoy the sun for a bit.

so it was a while after toph got there that a dark-skinned girl with a gentle but very literal glow about her (details she may or may not even recognize) approaches, recognizing the face she'd seen on her screen ]

You're Toph, correct? Pardon me, I'm Kanaya Maryam. We'd spoken over the Network?

[Well, she would notice the glowing, if she could see. Her vision, as it were, showed her someone very interesting. To her, at least.

She smiled in the speaker's direction.]

Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you.

[ her target's identity confirmed, kanaya approached a little more confidently ]

Oh, excellent. Likewise, of course. [ she points to the boots ] This is the footwear I'm meant to inspect?

Uh, yeah. I should've cleaned them first sorry.

[She'll just pick them up and hold them out. They're obviously extremely well made - anything made by Edna Mode has to be - and aren't of the usual boot-type materials. Something more..durable, warm, and thing. Toph hadn't bothered to learn the specifics, she was just happy to find boots she could wear and still see with.]

I've had 'em for a year now.

That's quite alright. [ she sits down on the edge of the fountain on the other side of the boots from toph, looking them over for signs of wear

reaching a hand toward them, she casts a glance at the other girl ] May I take a more direct look at them, if you don't mind?

[She'll just sit there, swinging her feet a little. Always keeping one hand palm-down on the fountain's rim so she can see around them.

The boots are quite worn, but the soles are still in good condition. It's more the uppers that need repair or replacing.]

[ she picks them up and takes a look, noting where the seams have come loose, but it's the soles she focuses on ]

It seems odd for boots like these to have soles of such thin support. You must have worn these rather often!

Well yeah, but they were always that thin! Anything else, and I can't see. Which is why I hate what I've got on.

[Lifts a foot up to show the shoe on it. Bad shoe, bad. Too thick in the sole!]

Oh, pardon me for not recognizing it! I have a friend who's blind, but she's...somewhat synaesthetic, actually.

[ she flits her eyes down to the shoes toph's wearing, for comparison ]

So, how is it you're capable of perceiving things in a more visual manner through the thinner sole, if you don't mind my asking?

[They're a pair of exceedingly beat up ked-type shoes where the sole is so worn down it's practically not there. Yay for thrift stores.]

Um, I see through my feet. Kind of. It's with my Earthbending. Everything has a vibration, and I feel it through my feet and know where things are. So I can see you, all the people around here, even things like ants and other bugs.

[ she turns the boot back over in her hands, running a finger along the sole ]

So, it must be of such a specific thickness in order to accommodate the sensation these vibrations will broadcast through your feet? I believe I can work within these parameters.

[ she almost asks her about what colors she likes, but oh yeah that would've been synaestheisa too, huh. oh maybe she could... ] Do various colors give differing vibrations as well?

Something like that. If I had my way, I'd never wear shoes, ever. But it just gets too cold here, you know? Winter sucks.

[she'll just tilt her head while she thinks about that.]

Colors? No, it's all the same.

I suppose then putting too much focus into that aspect would be pointless at best, self-serving at worst.

[ she sets the two boots in her lap ]

But I should be able to restitch these easily, while at the same time using them as a model for a replacement pair. The fit is ideal already?

Yeah, they still fit great! [Because she's not getting any taller. Woe! Forever short.]

Oh, that shouldn't be necessary! I do this sort of work all the time, I don't see the need in being paid for a job like this.

But it's gonna take you some time! Let me at least buy you lunch or dinner or something.
