[Well someone is at home sulking up a storm.]

Considering the rash of port-outs over the last few weeks, as we have endlessly been reminded of, I am interested in collecting any hard data that you happen to have on them. Therefore, name, approximate date and time of port out, relationship with poster, etc. Please also include whether or not you, or the person ported, have had any extra dealings with the Porter. I am taking cases again. My new office is here: [the address of his house]. Interesting cases only. To those that were sending case inquiries to my colleague John Watson: it will be necessary to forward them directly to me for the foreseeable future.

I have it's assurances that won't be a problem. How far I can believe such assurances, on the other hand...

You can't. Desire knows how to work around truth, in some ways. You can trust me on that.

[It's going to take some time, but he's not about to give Edward any ammo.]

No. I'm confident. [Another few sessions, a few more insights and perhaps these conversations would go better for him.]

If you're sure. [A pause.] Have you found other allies? Informative ones, I mean.

Other allies? [He caught that, Edward.]

I've gathered a small amount of intel, yes. [But not enough. And nothing conclusive.]

That is what I said.

Oh? But you'd hardly be satisfied with small amounts of data. You're not one to assume.

Is that what we are. Given what I've gathered so far on the subject, I doubt any amount of data will suffice to grant an accurate picture of the subject. But no. I'm not.

There are more precise ways to know. [HEH falsehood detection HEH.] But such desired knowledge always comes with such a price.

I make a point of not trusting anyone. [A lie, but not an intentional one.]

[There's a long, long, pause.

Then, well after it looks like there are no more messages coming:]

If your prices are anything like Desire's, they are likely too rich for my blood.

[He neglected verbally falsehooding the trust statement -- what fun information to keep to himself.]

Oh? [After that long pause.] I am, perhaps, more authoritarian with my power than Desire is, at times.

But you know. You know that it's all within your grasp, the absolute truth. I could deliver it.

There's a difference between knowing the truth and giving it, Edward. Does your power work on yourself, or does the statement have to come from another?

Ah. If you thought it necessary to say that to me, of all people, you clearly have not been observing my habits. [Psychological problems with outright lying, without a compulsion, can be so difficult to work with.] Which is a relief, really.

It does not work on myself. It would certainly make fact-checking easier, if it did.

[Sherlock's only seen him use it when it's to make a point - and usually a humiliating one. He's never seen Edward use it grudgingly, or as a tool by someone else.]

I've seen you do very little that wasn't of immediate use to you. [Even saving Katurian, he suspects, benefited Edward, though that was the most selfless he's noticed. People are so precious about their pets.]

So is it your curiosity or mine that you're interested in addressing?

But of course. If I let anything else be evident, dearest Sherlock, I wouldn't be doing my work right. Now would I?

[It's a jab, an impossible dilemma. Sherlock works based on fact, data, inarguable reality. Eddie does most of his work in shadows, unobserved. To suspect him of anything other than the observational would be to succumb to jumps in imagination, to keep to the available data (as it stood, anyway) was to deny his darker, truer advantages -- and that amuses Eddie.

He loved these sort of dilemmas. The kinds that forced you to compromise, or lose.]

But that's neither here nor there. I'm interested in any curiosity, it's so difficult to find the proper vessels of such a trait. Especially here.

See? I can play the nurturer, too.

[He didn't reply to the first, though it's certainly noted. It's come up more than once, when Sherlock's interest hasn't extended into the psychological. But he reserves the in depth observations needed for such a profile only for persons of interest, which Edward has not - as of yet - become. The constant challenge, however, was enough to annoy him to action. But not without data. And Sherlock could be patient. Sometimes.]

Nurture my curiosity to settle yours? You still haven't mentioned the price.

Trust me, it's too high a price to pay. I'm not like Desire, you know, I won't just tell you what I wanted through a pointed -- yet obvious -- question.

How is that any fun?

I would never take you for the obvious, Edward. [And it was a compliment.]
