Day 12 - VOICE

It is the second Sunday of May.

I wonder how many of you can pay tribute to your mothers in this City? Many of you have probably been separated from your mothers. Even those whose mothers have gone cannot even visit their grave. How many mothers have been torn from their children?

Cards not given, flowers unreceived.

And they're probably too busy havin' brunch to answer ya.

A brunch with their mother. Together, happy, enjoying the day. Unlike the rest of us.

Aw no, does that mean you're gonnae cry about your mummy now?

I do not mourn her, and I would not trouble you with it if I did.

Most folk will just enjoy their Sunday. So they should. If their mums arenae dead awready they'll see them sometime.

Not very sentimental, are you?

Not a wee bit. What's the use?

No, at some point you must detach yourself.

Aye. If ya was ever attached to begin with.

And I suppose that applies to you?

Aye, o'course. But not you, right?

Now why would you assume that?

'Coz you're talkin' aboot it for all us wee peoples to hear. Or d'ya want them all feeling sorry for themselves?

They do sound rather unappreciative of the reminder, don't they?

Like weans not even yet in school.

You get all sorts of responses if you but ask. Entertaining ones and fascinating ones.

That disnae get boring?

It serves as a nice break between crimes.

Whatever gets ya going, I guess.
