It is the second Sunday of May.

I wonder how many of you can pay tribute to your mothers in this City? Many of you have probably been separated from your mothers. Even those whose mothers have gone cannot even visit their grave. How many mothers have been torn from their children?

Cards not given, flowers unreceived.

My mother isn't here, so no.

Not even on her behalf?

I think about my mom plenty, a special day isn't going to make a difference in that.

But it adds another layer of meaning to your thoughts.

Try to think about previous Mother's Days, from years long past.

For most of it I was a minor or a broke college kid, I don't think those are exactly memorable.

Not a single Mother's Day memory?

None that I'm inclined to share.

And what if your constituents felt you weren't showing enough familial love?

My family isn't fucking here, I'd think my constituents would understand that.

[ A scoff. ] Calendar-themed supervillains.

And there are so many of those. [ But he sounds strangely pleased. ]

Pretty sure you're the only one, [ a beat ] that I've met.

I should hope not. And have you met many supervillains, Mayor? Aside from your employee.

I run a city filled with supervillains and superheroes. I've met quite a few, and Edward is hardly a supervillain! Anymore.

He does seem very determined to believe that.

Because he is reformed?

And when it is May, it is May, until it is not.

And attitudes like that are probably why nobody in Gotham ever actually gets over their supervillain period, you know that?

Rehabilitation is an illusion. The mindset does not change, only the adherence to the laws. [ Beat. ] ...Are you from Gotham?
