first movement; overture [ video ]
[ The room is dark - well, dimly lit. Someone appears to have taken pains to shut as much light out as possible without actually moving anything, but it doesn't do that much.
The person responsible for the broadcast moves into the view of the camera, seemingly unaware of it. Their face can't be made out - not that it could anyway, as they're not facing the camera.
There's enough light to discern that this person is wearing a black, slightly ragged suit, contrasting nicely with shoulder-length white hair. There's the rustle of cloth, the soft plink of a string, and a violin briefly comes into view as they raise the instrument to their shoulder, bow in the other hand.
A slightly shaky breath, and then they put bow to string, pausing for a brief moment.
And then the violin sings. This performance goes on for quite a while.
What may be impressive is that the whole thing is played perfectly; no hesitation or stumbling. When the person is finished, they lower the violin, and the broadcast ends.
The name attached to the broadcast may be familiar to some people. ]

voice
I'm fine, just kind of worried. I have encryptions, if you don't want to give your address out publicly.
voice, text
Well, if you'd like to visit, I can hardly decline. I have no problems with giving out my address.
[ and here's the address, in text! he's chilling out in the MAC apartment complex and not planning on going anywhere, so. ]
voice -> action?? :D
[he's just gently shooing rats away from his person and heading downstairs to the given address, to knock quietly on the door]
action!! :D
he'll just open the door for you, shall he? ]
My apologies. Normally, I'd be more prepared to host guests. [ he kind of gives Piper a wan smile, closing the door once he's in and- okay he's going to sit down on one of the chairs before he starts getting too dizzy. again. ] I admit that I'm not in the best shape to be doing so, however.
[ guess who looks terrible? YEAH THIS GUY. he's very determinedly doing his best not to slouch, though! perfect posture and everything.
the silver insignia on the lapel of his coat, though, may be familiar, if Piper has gone through that event already. ]
action!! :D
Maybe I can make you some tea. You look like death warmed over. [he is unfortunately from before Blackest Night, and so fails to recognize the logo for what it is]
action
he kind of laughs a little at Piper's comment, though ]
Death does tend to leave you feeling rather sorry for yourself, I'm afraid.
Tea would be much appreciated. Thank you. [ normally he'd make something but he doesn't want to go around dropping things and making messes of breakable objects ]
action
Not a problem.
[on the one hand it's kind of humbling to be in the presence of this guy who was fighting Flash before Piper even had the idea in his head, and on the other, he's kind of concerned for him.]
I think you should definitely take it easy for a while. Can you tell me what happened, before you came here?
action
he doesn't consider himself terribly impressive is all ]
It's not as if I can do much else. [ another little laugh. ]
Hm. Long story short, I received an invitation from the Society - pulling all the villains together, that sort of thing - and declined. [ A pause as he rearranges his thoughts. he's kind of upset with both the society and mockingbird, to be honest ] I threw in my lot with the Secret Six for a while, I tripped up on a mission, and I was executed. [ this is said....really casually.... ]
And then, well, there was some incident with Black Lantern rings, I wasn't really around for that, strictly speaking. I did get revived for it - it was terribly unpleasant and not an experience I would wish to repeat.
[ it gets kind of blurry here for him so he's just going to pause again ]
At some point, I was killed again, for a given value of the word, and then the next thing I knew I'd been pulled in here.
It's an improvement! [ suddenly, kind of cheerful! ]
action
Yeah... James is here, too. It's better for both of you. [particularly in light of that executed thing. But he's not going to belabor it, if Isaac is dealing with it okay (or seems to be...in denial...or something, Piper is not a psychologist ok)]
I'm really glad I got the chance to meet you. [whoops king of awk, just bringing his tea over]
action
It certainly seems to be. [ he's kind of repressing his trauma super hard a little bit no big ]
--Really? [ HE SOUNDS KIND OF STARTLED TBH why though... ]
action
[he's wishing he had a hood to duck back into right about now, but he doesn't, setting the tea down and then sitting on the edge of the bed.]
You're legendary. [said like, duh.]
action
Hm, is that so? Well, I hadn't been much in the loop, so you'll forgive my surprise. I wasn't aware I had that much of a reputation. [ the last time he got addressed by someone he got called a decrepit relic, okay
thanks cheshire]action
[he frowns] Then nobody knows your history.
action
he waves a hand, looking mildly embarrassed. ] I was in semi-retirement, after all. And it's not as if people outside Keystone remember it was moved out of time.
action
I'm sure there was news footage. [for a normally semi-perceptive dude Piper is missing all the modest signals here] And anyway, people in the City can find out what they were missing, now. Once you feel better.
action
[ oh, piper. he can't even deal with this mild hero-worshipping.... ] I suppose there was. [ he can't really remember since he got dumped in jail and everything...how does he even. ] Mm. That's certainly an option.
no subject
An option? What are the others?
no subject
Oh, nothing much. I suppose I could do some performing. [ it's obviously not an option that he really prefers, though. ] I haven't got too many plans at the moment.
no subject
If you need a job, I ...I'd be honored to ask you to work for me.
no subject
[ Another little smile. ] That's certainly kind of you. I think I'll take you up on the offer, when I feel better.
no subject
[he tosses his hair back, out of his face, trying to focus for a second] Really?
no subject
wow that sure is a lot of anger there. just straight up fury for a minute because targeting family is kind of too far and then he settles, still somewhat tense. ] I'm sorry you had to go through that. [ what else can he say, really? there's not really anything to be done now. ]
Of course. I get to work with what I love most, after all, and I highly doubt anyone else would want to hire me in such capacity.
no subject
[he chuckles] I don't want to dissuade you from working for me, but your slate here should be clean.
no subject
Nobody should have to experience that. [ he hadn't lost his parents, exactly, but he's experienced that kind of loss, of someone close to him. ]
[ waves a hand! no big deal ] I think I would prefer to work with people I know. It's more comforting, to be honest.
no subject
I'm just saying. If cops give you pressure or vigilantes or anything, tell me and I will sort it out for you. I promise.
