028 // Video, Spidey's comm; backdated to yesterday evening
[The video opens on Spider-Man, looking a little... singed. There’s a scorch mark blotting one of those giant, white mask lenses, and what looks to be an improvised web-bandage slapped around one shoulder. Despite these obvious marks of a fracas, he adopts a chipper pose, pointing his finger in the air as he says:]
We interrupt your regularly scheduled network programming to bring you a special announcement--
[just about there is where Ko...I mean Wild Tiger blunders into view just over Spidey’s shoulder, examining a slightly-bloodied slash in his sleeve and the burn mark on his bicep underneath]
Damn! Maybe I should have worn the suit after all.
[Spidey half-turns in his direction, finger still raised.]
I did tell you, didn’t I? I said, “Tiger, I know you don’t want to be all intimidating--”
Yeah, but how was I supposed to know that we were gonna be walking into LASERS! Who the hell even uses laser guns anymore? Honestly!
Phantasm, apparently. [To the Network:] That’s right, folks. Our friendly neighborhood homegrown wannabes now have laser weaponry. And they’re definitely not afraid to use ‘it.
[half musing to himself but definitely audible] Do you think they really didn’t like us, or we just surprised them?
Well, if you want, we could go back and ask. Maybe if we’re really, extra specially-polite, they might not try and kill us again.
[siiiiigh] Not for another hour, until the Hundred Power recharges. By then it’ll be too late, they’ll have scampered.
[Spidey shrugs.] Nah, they’ll have gone already. If you’re game we should head back, though, see if we can track them. They had to’ve gotten those guns from somewhere, that wasn’t the kind of equipment you build in your basement.
...only if we swing past my place to get the suit, first. I’m not making that mistake twice.
That hoodie’s reached the end of its natural lifespan, that’s for sure. [Oh yeah, they’re on camera.] Anyway, I know Tiger’n’I aren’t the only ones who’ve been trying to reach out to Phantasm -- consider yourselves warned.
[there’s just one more ‘Damn!’ out of Wild Tiger before they disconnect]
