[ Yako's obviously in her MAC apartment, hair pulled back away from her face with a kerchief and still wearing an apron, though she's kicking back on her couch instead of actually cooking at the moment. ]

I'd like to welcome everyone who's arrived in the City over the past month. I haven't really been using the network much, so I haven't had the chance to greet everyone, but hopefully I can be better about that.

[ She pauses, like she's mulling something over, before continuing. ]

Also, since people here come from all over the place, we must have had the chance to eat all kinds of things. What's your favorite food? Is there anything at home that you can't find in the City, or vice versa? What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten?

[ She looks like she might be about to launch into more questions, voice rising with more obvious passion for the subject, but she's interrupted by the sound of an oven timer going off. Her face visibly lights up before she hastily turns the feed off. ]

My favorite food? [mmm] I can't really decide on one. [why did she have to ask] I like rice, pizza, spaghetti, pesto sandwiches, salad, tomatoes, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream, donuts, cinnamon buns, zucchini bread, sweet candies, sour candies...

Those all sound pretty good to me. [ she grins. ] Honestly, I don't think I could pick a favorite myself. As long as its good food, I'll like it.

[he just looks sheepish, because he's hungry right now. but some asshole will call him fat if he tries to eat another meal today. GOSH] Yes, I think I'm the same way. [he doesn't really know. this whole eating thing is still new]

There are foods I don't like to eat, so I don't, but the rest are very, very good.

[ someone who likes eating is always someone she can get along with, okay? besides, she's eaten 120kg of fish in one sitting before, if that's not piggish then who knows what is... ]

What don't you like eating, then? It sounds like it might be easier to list that instead.

I don't like to eat meat.

Is there a particular reason for that?

[soulbonder]

Yes. It used to be alive.

Technically, vegetables are alive too. [ She's not saying it to be rude or contradictory, but just stating a fact. ]

Still, it's a little different when you know they can experience pain.

[soulbonder]

Yes, vegetables can't speak. ... Unless your powers allow them speak to you, but very few people possess that ability. [kinda winces]

[ she kind of winces too. ]

I heard someone in the City has the ability to talk to food -- any kind of food. I don't think that's an ability I'd want to have.

I believe we are speaking of the same person! I don't envy him.

Ah, have you spoken with them? I haven't met them myself, but someone told me about it.

[ Not in the most flattering terms, either... ]

I don't think I envy him, either.

Yes, briefly. I wanted to see how his powers worked, but it appears only to be food that's in proximity.

What about you? Do you have any powers of your own?

[soulbonder]

Isn't that a bit off-topic? [But he doesn't seem to care, though! Not that he was going to do the same thing or anything.] I'm what many humans call an empath.

[ She laughs, like she isn't put off by him calling her out on it at all. ] It just felt a bit rude to keep talking about someone we don't know very well. If I have any powers, I haven't had the chance to figure them out yet.

If it isn't rude to ask, what exactly are you, if you aren't human? [ She gestures curiously, presumably at her screen. She'd been meaning to bring it up earlier, but food was always a good distraction. ]

I don't know how to answer your question, since I don't know myself. [oh wait, this is video, so again he looks rather embarrassed] The person you see before you is not who I really am, either-- I'm only human due to the Porter's interference.

I've heard it does that. [ danger's a prime example of it, at the moment. she'd thought he seemed a little off, but she didn't really want to assume anything until he referred to humans as... well, humans. like he didn't belong.

it's also curious that he doesn't know what he is, but that's a question to save for later. ]

Is being human odd for you?

[soulbonder]

Yes. I used to think it was terrible, too... But it's not that bad. Being able eat, to have the chance to try new foods-- I like that.

You didn't have to eat before?

[soulbonder]

Not really. Of course, I still required energy, but I had to get it through other means. [living off of Yuma's emotions and shit is totes cool right]

"Other means?" [ of course she had to ask. ]

It's... [Complicated.] You are aware of how plants collect sunlight, so they may transform it energy? It's similar to that, in a way.

So you collect energy from something else and use that instead?

[soulbonder]

Yes!
