With everything that happens here, I have to wonder if we are really all that effective here other than being a nuisance or being made an example of. I'm unsure what had happened in "New Vesuvius", but it appears that sacrifices needed to be made. It's never easy to feel like you have no choice... To some people, that realization is more difficult to handle than you'd think.

Ultimately, you're left with the question of whether or not it was worth it in the end. Are you the person who refuses the circumstances you are put in or are you the person that pushes through with what you are given and find your own way?

[A small pause]

Either way... I hope all of you made it home safe.

I don't know what happened either, but the cryptic things being said make me wonder if I really want to. If people really had no other choice than to die...

I want to say there's always another choice. I wasn't there though. With the number that seemed to have taken it up... I'm guessing the other choices weren't so appealing.

It's better that way. That place was just as dangerous as that world with all the ships.

We were sorted into different "castes", so I'm not sure who else was there.

Yeah. This bunch...I've gathered they've seen worse and come out fine, so whatever happened there has to be pretty bad.

It all depends on what you make of the City. I hate to say this, but some of us are greater nuisances than others.

Not a lot. Mostly just waiting for those of you that were pulled into it. I kept expecting something to happen here, but nothing ever did.

It's too bad there isn't much we can do about this particular situation. It seems all we can do is accept it happened and move on.

There's nothing to despise-- it's true.

So therefore, some of us are more effective at changing the City than others.

Those are the worst kind. You never really fully understand what it means to have your hands tied until something like this comes along.

It's times like these that I wonder why we really are here, and if the being that brought us here just enjoys the mind games and not so much the action.

Hm, yeah...the thought has crossed my mind, too. The 'why are we here' bit. Not that I haven't seen Imports do good work, but sometimes our heroics wouldn't be necessary if we weren't here at all - the rest is stuff the cops can do just fine.

I think we all change the City in our own way. If it's a necessary change or not is a different story.

What would you say about yourself? Have you made necessary changes?

I don't believe it was necessary for me to be here to begin with. I, myself, had to change to live in this City. As far as impact.. I've done what I could when I've been able to.

I guess after a year I'm still not convinced that there's any real purpose to this.

Well, what's our real purpose back home? Nobody knows. Our purpose is what we make of it.

Do you think organizations such as Vulcanus would've happened whether we showed up or not?

Humans have a way about them that I'm not entirely convinced they exist because we do.

Well, see, that's the funny thing. I've been looking back as far as the network will let me, and it sounds like Vulcanus was formed exactly because of us. So some of the long-timers say. As for the rest, I couldn't say.

Knowing we cause more harm than good... I can't really blame people for hating us.

I wouldn't say that. Unleashing a virus on the population hoping it would only hurt Imports sounds like more harm than good to me.

Heh. These are battles I never expected to fight. Being here has truly been a different experience.

Was Kenzi with you the whole time?

I know I've changed the City-whether necessary or not, I don't know.

[He's hesitant to answer..]

No. She wasn't.

[He'll keep it short. Kenzi appears to not want to be seen or talked to at the moment since she's been back]

Then she was there? Is she back now?

Yeah. She's around.

Around? What -- is she okay?

[He switches to Private]

I've been keeping tabs on her... she hasn't really been wanting to talk. She'll speak up when she's ready.

What do you mean? [ He doesn't like the sound of that and it shows in his tone. ] Do you know what caste she was put in, then? [ It could explain a lot.

He hopes she didn't kill herself to escape. ]

[He grunts]

Listen, Gil. I'm not sure what caste she was put in, but it's clear she went through something.[He doesn't like it any better than you, man.] She deserves to try to sort things out herself... especially if she did feel the need to do something drastic.

[There's a slight pause]

I'm watching her. If things don't get better on her own accord... I'll see to it that matters are taken to my own hands.

[ His own temper flares up, but he manages to quell it. He shouldn't be upset with Piccolo, who just wants to look out for Kenzi as much as he himself does. ]

... You're right. [ He sighs. ] I'll give her some space, if that's what she wants.

[He knows Gil is a good guy, but he can't help but be protective, even to a friend]

As soon as she's willing to talk... I'll let her know she ought to talk to you.

[ He just hates feeling useless. ]

... That world was difficult for everyone. Forced to be slaves, there wasn't much of a choice between doing as we were told to survive or death.

Caste E was for entertainment. They made us answer extremely personal questions for the televisions and -- [ his stomach twists, the memory still fresh ] pit us against one another.

And you survived?

Once the other man was taken down, they didn't see a point in continuing the fight.
