Hector Peck might be a dead end. I don't think he's involved at all with Vulcanus or that New Vesuvius city. He's just an editor for a newspaper here and keeps himself busy with that. Nothing out of the ordinary with his schedule or work.

[ When Gil speaks up, he sounds as if he's slightly congested. ]

I believe Raven has been ported out. If she had any previous or future engagements to attend to I'm sorry, but I don't think she'll be showing up. I haven't heard from or seen her around the house since before some of us were ported to New Vesuvius.

I'm not sure what to do yet about her belongings. It seems too soon to pack them away somewhere so they aren't lying around the place, doesn't it? A bit rude, too... [ He sighs. It's hard to finish cleaning the place when he's caught in a tiny dilemma like this!! ]

It's always going to be impossible to predict how long before people return. [ A beat. ] If they do.

[ Followed by another pause, as if he may add something to that thought. ]

Ah, never mind.

You've known her for a long time, haven't you?

You could say that. I trained her.

And the other Avengers?

I go back pretty far with a few of them, but they're not my team.

It's still strange at times to think about -- superheroes. [ And it's still a weird word to say aloud. ] Vigilante antics would be frowned upon and illegal back home.

We got used to seeing them around during the war. After that, I think everybody more or less accepted the idea that there were some things beyond regular soldiers.

[invoking]

The war? [ A beat. ] Sorry, there's still a lot of this world's history I'm learning about.

[agentofshield]

Near as I can tell, this world deviates on that point, but where I'm from superpowered soldiers we used during the second World War. Back then, we called them Marvels. I fought with them for a while, off and on, and a few of them lived long enough to become Avengers. People got used to seeing that style of heroism.

What I don't understand is why someone built that machine -- Lachesis -- to port us in rather than just look into their own city or across states for aw enforcement.

It's a good question. I wish I could answer it. I could probably take a shot at it if she only went for people with superpowers, but she does it seemingly at random. It doesn't make sense.

[invoking]

And brings in criminals. [ He sighs. ]

Not to mention not everyone has those "superpowers". And she gave me a useless one on top of that.

In my experience "useless" powers just need a little more work to figure them out. That being said, you're right, it's damn annoying and doesn't make any amount of sense that she'd bring in known criminals.
