[British accent. Sounds youngish and a little bit high and mighty.]

I don't want to be a superhero. What is more: I'm not going to be a superhero. I am perfectly content to work to help reestablish safety in the City, but I won't fight. That is hardly going to help anyone, not in the long term. He cannot expect me to discard everything that I've believed in all my life after he kidnaps me from—

I am not a soldier, and I am not fighting in any man's war, even if it is against crime.

I'm from America, year 2026. It's 2009 here in the City right now. I'm sure that's one of the least confusing examples.

If you didn't have any abilities before, you do now. You just don't know what it is yet.

I have a feeling a lot of things here are going to be very new to you. If you need information, I'm sure a lot of people here on the network would be willing to help.

I'd say so. Cars and television are vastly improved from how you'd know them, there's subway stations in most major cities, and I bet you don't know that communicator you're using is a type of computer.

Oh, really? I didn't know it was that old.

The basics should be the same, but the cars here have additions like power steering... and airbags.

This era has compact discs instead. They go in CD players that're like an electronic version of a record player. Digital music - that's music stored on computer devices - is very popular as well.
