I'm not useless.

I know that I act like I am most of the time, and it ain't exactly as if I'm flying around the City putting out fires and grabbing kittens out of trees, but I can do stuff. Stuff that no one else here can.

This isn't me typing up a résumé and begging for someone here to hire me. I have a job. I like my job at the restaurant, and I've been getting way more shifts than usual, ever since Laura disappeared. You know, some of you should stop by sometime, and I'll probably make you something for cheap. Anyway, this is just something you should keep in mind.

I don't turn invisible. I can do better than that. I can move out of time and not be seen, so I can get in and out of anywhere without really being there. I'm fast, too. Give me days and I'll give back months. Whatever. You get the point—I can do shit that you can't, and seriously, that's useful.

Not asking for money. Not much, anyway. Just something to do to keep me distracted, so I don't end up getting high every night and acting like a stupid bitch around people only trying to help. Anything that's not too sketchy—I don't mind stealing and spying on people, but I'm not about to kill anyone. Or steal any of their organs.

Okay. Maybe a kidney.

And because I organised porter-duty when things were kinda upside down for a while, I should probably ask: you new guys doing alright here? Yeah, maybe it sucks, and no, you definitely can't get out, but my apartment is still half empty, if anyone feels like helping out with the rent.

Where I come from, we have many gods and goddess. If Lucifer is the god of evil, I could understand that a little better, though my goings-on with him would indicate he's hardly the worst evil I've ever met.

Where I'm from, Lucifer is supposed to be some angel who used to work for God—the only god—and then decided to fuck off, because he didn't like the way he was doing things. So he became thought of as evil and shit, and is apparently responsible for everything that goes wrong in the world.

But, y'know, that's just a story, and we never got to hear both sides. I guess the Lucifer here isn't that much of the stereotype of, uh, himself.

Well, immortal creatures tend to gather stories around themselves that are not always true. It's an interesting one, nonetheless. Personally, I find the idea of only having one god far more interesting than Lucifer.

But apparently we've got other gods hanging around our world, anyway. I... don't really know, though. Never paid much attention, and a lot of what I learnt about my universe I heard from people brought here.

I find it's a fabulous adventure for myself, given that many of the things here don't exist in my world, and vice versa. Especially because I gave up many of my responsibilities I would have otherwise worried about. Do you have the same circumstances?

Not exactly gonna call it an adventure, and most of the stuff here we had back home. This City is actually just an alternate version of where I grew up, so there's not that much difference. But I am glad I was brought here, 'cause everything goes better for me. Most of the time, anyway.

I can't tell if Jarlaxle is bluffing or not-- which is as it should be, the sly bastard-- but if you think his Knowledge (the planes) modifier and roll is high enough-- It might be, it might not be, you never know with him-- he might know that Lucifer does-- or, rather, did-- exist in Forgotten Realms cosmology. He was the original ruler of the Nine Hells of Baator, until Asmodeus overthrew him eons ago. ^_^
