TWO: Leaving rock-faced indents in no less than five walls. [VOICE]

There seems to be no middle ground here. Either you know how things work here and manage just fine, or you have next no experience with this kind of culture, and you get to enjoy learning things the hard way. [muttering.] Unless that's more exclusive to those of us unlucky enough to not blend in naturally.

[SIGH.]
I can't even tell what passes for 'average' or 'acceptible' here. I've seen dozens of so-called 'superheroes' buzzing around for this and that without people on the streets so much as twitching. Then you turn a corner and someone hurls a crowbar at you. And then picks it up and does it again. Maybe it's only acceptible if you're flying. Or not blue. Hhh.

Whatever. I'm actually more curious as to what's keeping the people here that don't like what's happening around here? I don't know how the government works here--especially since a portion of it is missing, apparently?

Because no matter what does get passed over as 'normal', I don't think it includes the things that disintegrate your home. That's not normal either, is it?

WHY DON'T WE ALL DISCUSS THIS ON NPR AND HAVE A FINE CHAT AND TALK ABOUT PRECEDENTS AND SLIPPERY SLOPES AND OUR BUTTERY FAT FEELINGS, AND WHEN WE'RE ALL DONE, WE CAN GET NUKED INTO NON-EXISTENCE.

HARGLE GARBLE MELODRAMA AND INTROSPECTION HURRRRRRRRRRRR

When you have superheroes and a thing destroys bits of the city and people who are actually "robots", is there any such thing as a normal?

[identity profile] amnotaweasel.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if that's normal here, then I guess that's why they don't leave?

Oh God it's Zel ILU (Also: Beware! Mary is like Amelia)

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think most of us are just muddling through, even if we do come from a similar culture! I mean, who expect to just get plopped into a random city? And even if you do know someone, they might not be the someone that you know, because their timeline is different, or they come from the future or the past or something.

I'm not sure anyone really knows how to go back home. It seems really random, at best, because some people leave and some don't. Otherwise, I think most people would have left a long time ago.

Oh, and getting your home disintegrated isn't normal if no one fights back and tries to stop it from getting disintegrated. That's what heroes do, after all! Oh.. wait, did your home get disintegrated?! Was anyone hurt?? Are you okay?!

SHE WILL BE ADORABLE AND PESTER HIM TO TRY TO MAKE HIM CHEER UP AND HE WON'T BE ABLE TO RESIST.

[identity profile] littleprovolone.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Thank goodness! I'd hate for you to lose your home so soon after you get here; that would be the absolute worst!

As far as the rest of the city getting destroyed... um... well, I guess the best thing is to get used to it. Weird stuff happens almost daily here. Sometimes it's not so bad, though! A few weeks ago there was a singing spell cast on everyone in the City. It was like living in a musical!

Golly, where are my manners? I'm Mary, Mary Marvel. It's a pleasure to meet you!

[flicker -- ah hah! male drow! From the slight sway of the camera, it's probably being held up by a string. in front's a black-skinned drow elf, with a big hat and an eyepatch. He looks very cheerful, with a big smile.]

Surely you're not going to let the opinions of a few silly humans get you down.

[he makes a dismissive gesture with his hand and laughs.]

I find that they tend to learn their lessons relatively quickly, especially when there's only a few of them. I find that the large mobs can be avoided with a little difficulty.

[identity profile] gourys-usernaem.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't get it either, huh?

Oh well. Let's go get some tacos.

Not every problem. Just the problem where I'm hungry.

[identity profile] zequals18.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's that there isn't a normal. More like the range of things that fall under it is really wide and bleeds into the edges. But weird doesn't have to be a bad thing?

I'm sorry about the crowbar, but you know, someone's always willing to do that to "normal" people too. City life. The home disintegrating thing not so much.

Did you say you were blue, sugar?

[identity profile] theprimerprime.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The government here is useless, that's all you need to know.

[identity profile] lyingbrat.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you're an officer of it, so I suppose you'd know better than anyone else, wouldn't you?

Well... Maybe they're hoping things will stop happening? Of course, that en't very likely.

I find that humans generally give a better reception to those that resemble themselves.
