But this one is grinning; you can see through the weird full-face-but-still-somehow-open-mouthed mask. He shifts his shoulders back, and there's no cape behind him, adding to the oddness. ] Alternate Dimension kidnapping? Not schway. What ever happened to just flipping on the good old-fashioned bat signal?

Kidding. Normal people use the Net, obviously. [ beat, muttering to himself: ] Aaand now I'm talking like anything the old man does is normal. I must be going crazy.

I've heard lots of words! Conniption, ornery, smithereens, sheriff, guignol, and so on and so forth.

There's no way "guignol" isn't dumber than "schway."

[beat] Which is the opposite of dumb.

Guignol is classy! It's French! [Vash is a classy guy, Terry, see? He knows French.]

So is eating snails. [He might be jealous, he never learned French.]

[He only actually knows two words of French, the other being Maman.]

Snails are good nutrients!

So. How's the century adjust going for you, uhh- guy?

The fact that anyone lives there at all is something like a miracle. It's sort of a post-apocalyptic deal.

People wrote their reports on typewriters and listened to the radio, but there were also cyborgs running around. We only got TV recently. So it's just weird living on a planet where there's a consistent level of technology.
