#005 // do you hear what I hear?

Note to self: thank all the powers that be that I got a job at a bookstore and not a larger retail shopping outlet. I've never seen people go this bonkers over materialistic things before. It makes no sense at all.

I saw someone spraying white stuff on a window on the way home, for no apparent reason. I also saw artificial trees, which make absolutely no sense. Why would you have an artificial tree if you can look out the window and see a real one?

Go figure.

They're decorations. Lots of people start to prepare for Christmas right after Thanksgiving ends.

It's a holiday. It means different things to different people, but mostly it's an excuse to give people presents.

Man, I wish I could make an awesome comment about materialism or whatever, but I got no insights.

I honestly have no idea where the red and green thing came from. I mean, maybe they're supposed to brighten up the season?

Red and green work perfectly well together. Even if my costume no longer has both.

I believe they're the traditional colours because the holiday started back in the times when all the decorations were seasonal plants, particularly holly and ivy. Holly berries are bright red.

Holiday. Biggest one of all. Commercialism rampant.

I'd explain the whole religious part, but my Catholic seems to have lapsed.

Black Friday is the worse day of the year. People go crazy because stores lower their prices for stuff. People get hurt all the time because people can't be patient.

As for the white stuff... It's fake snow. I'm sure we'll get some real stuff soon, but some people like the look of the fake too. Easier to clean up.

The artificial trees don't leave the pine needles all over the place. So people like to put them inside their homes to decorate.

Just sit back and enjoy the light shows. Some people can get pretty creative with Christmas lights.

These are pedestrian complaints coming from you, aren't they?

'Tis the season.

We didn't have Christmas back home, either, but I saw one once. Though as I recall, it didn't start this early. I heard a some ridiculous things about it, though. Supposedly some fatass in a red suit goes around the world in one night, in a sleigh drawn by a bunch of flying moose or something.

...Honestly, all I really remember is the candy canes.

The white stuff is this City's sad excuse for fake snow. Which is such a personally affront to me, sometimes it gets hard to see straight.

You take fake snow personally?

I get that most people want to think they're all beautiful unique snowflakes, but dude. Chill.
