This thing is brilliant! On my way to detention with Filch, then I end up here? I’ll take that any day. Figuring out Muggle contraptions is loads more fun than polishing trophies for the five hundred and eleventh time. Though I suppose he could have had something more evil in mind, he had a suspciously creepy smile when I saw him last time. [He pulls the camera back and tugs at his dogtags thoughtfully, then runs a hand through his hair, which just serves to make it even messier.]

Can’t say I’ve ever ended up in America before, and I can’t apparate yet, so I s’pose ...[There’s a little pause.] I don’t suppose there are any wizards here? Or anyone that knows how to get me back to Hogwarts?

[Do you have any idea how long Harry stared at this post? An eternity. Or what feels like one anyway. He doesn't want to use the camera and startle his dad so soon, but he feels like he should say something.

So he speaks in a dazed voice of someone who is not paying attention to what they're saying in the slightest.]

Better the trophies than having to recopy all of Filch's old records by hand.

[James makes a face and nods in agreement.]

Eurgh, yeah, I've had to do that one, too. Both involve lots of arm pain.

No kidding. But, er, you can't go back to Hogwarts here.

Really. Apparently this is another world. One that... doesn't have any wizarding schools.

[Pause.] Sorry.

...Hnf. Well, that's slightly irritating. No way of getting back?

....[And then there's a pause.] ...There had better be, is all I'm saying. [Because OH MERLIN, Lily could fall madly in love with Kingsley or ..or...Frank or someone and then James would just have to pine FOREVER.]

The only way back is if the Porter sends you back, from what I've heard.

On a slightly brighter side, if you get sent back it will be like you never left. [So you needn't worry about Lily. :|] ... Then again that means you'll still be heading to detention with Filch.

Ah, right.

Wellll, that's good, I s'pose, aside from the detention bit. I could probably find the cloak, but... [There's a little shrug, not that Harry can tell.]

Still have to be careful of Mrs. Norris.

What else... Well, things can get weird here. Like people get pulled from different worlds and times. The Porter can tamper with memories and give, but also take away, abilities. It also raises the dead sometimes.

Pfff, Mrs. Norris. Padfoot'll go after her if she causes trouble.

Yeah, I saw that. Remus is all old, it's a bit odd.

Lucky.

[If you think that's odd, wait until you see him.] 'A bit' might be an understatement.

Well, yeah, but it's still him. Just. Ah. Old, you know?

I know. [And now that he's run out of practical information to give... he has no idea what to say.]

Oh, and I'm James, by the way. Hallo, whoever-this-is, if you know Remus I am fairly sure you are an amazing person.

He's an old family friend.
