2; Video: In Which Tarvek Takes Matters Into His Own Hands
[Tarvek has not been enjoying the sudden man-eating addition to the local flora. It's nothing he can't handle, of course -- at least these aren't the kind from back home that drug you and eat you while you smile yourself to death -- but accidentally tripping into a patch of them on his way home from work today means that his clothes are completely ruined. And that... that will not stand. It's one thing to take a chunk out of his leg, quite another to rip up his coat.]
Hello, Cityzens.
[Anyone observant might notice something going on behind him on his MAC-provided desk. Parts from various electronics are moving about on their own, fitting themselves together and forming an evil, fiendish, maddeningly physics-defying... sewing machine.
Shut up. Every mad scientist has a hobby.]
If any among your number could point me to the place I would be the most likely to find fabric and sewing supplies of decent quality, I would be much obliged.

Polycotton blends are not 'fine']
Mm. Fine for you, perhaps. But I happen to consider clothing a statement of self, and I would rather not have that statement be 'I'm simply too lazy to even bother with proper tailoring'.

Clothes don't say that much.

[You're talking to a fop, Gretel. You really cannot change his mind on this.]
Besides, there's some satisfaction to be found in being self-sufficient.
[A prince who does nothing for himself and is waited on hand and foot is liable to get his ass kicked six ways from Sunday if his support system ever cuts him loose, after all, and Tarvek isn't stupid.]

What is that?

A sewing machine. Have you never seen one before?

[He is so confused.]
Alright, the miniature death ray might be a tad excessive, but it's only a precaution...

[ WHAT. ]
Death ray?

I know, I know. I don't usually build such coarse weaponry, but given what I've heard about this city, I feel it might be prudent.
As for their movement: I have apparently been gifted with some form of technokinesis by the powers that be. At least it's useful.

She might just be a little jealous, hm? Hers don't go together from the power of her mind. It must be a gift from the 'Porter.]
What a lovely sewing machine, Tarvek.
Re: video
Why thank you! I felt it was high time I recreated my one from home, considering the state of fashion affairs in this place.

[Wow it's like they didn't really talk about him all that much or something.]

[Sigh. But she's smiling at him. It's adorable.]
I might just have to have you make me something, then. If you're willing.

I'd certainly be willing!

Okay, how are you making it do that?

As far as I can tell, the porter decided to gift me with the ability to mentally manipulate machinery. I can do just as well with my hands so I'm not entirely sure what the rationale behind the decision was, but it does make multitasking easier.
video;
That is way schway. Do you know all the stuff you could use that for?
video;
You mean in addition to making myself a proper sewing machine and thus by extension proper clothing? The possibilities are endless, theoretically. Anything I could have done back home, I can do now, with the added bonus of needing to do nothing more than think it.
Were you not given something quite as... ah... 'schway'?
video;
Oh, I just got a pretty basic form of mechanopathy. I can build things pretty well, but I've got to use my hands to do it. [ yeah and she's ... a tiny bit jealous. ]
video;
[By the lovely lady he may or may not be trying to woo, no less. But shhh.]
To be honest? I prefer using my hands. The ability to multitask is excellent but there is something... strange, I suppose, about not doing the work myself. At least, not in the same way.
