I told you, you can date when I'm dead. [ Someone's leather gloved hand casually reaches up and plucks the cigarette out of her mouth and-- ] ...Are you recording.

[ She makes a face when he takes her cigarette. Dryly, with a tinge of annoyance: ] Say cheese, Dad.

Someone explain to my old man that I'm a big girl now, please and fucking thanks.

[ No answer. But whatever Jesse is, there's suddenly a brilliant golden-orange light in the general shape of a door. And out of it steps Jenny Quantum. ]

Hi. Oh, good-- you're decent.

[ She's got her shoes off and sitting on the couch in her MAC apartment, so about as decent as a scruffy teenage kid can be. She jumps up when the door appears, ready to kick whatever ass is coming out of it when Jenny appears. ]

Hi. Nice entrance.

[ The golden light fades. Jenny lifts her cigarette to her mouth to inhale smoke before she responds mildly. ]

Thanks. You wanna try it?

Hell yeah! Oh, but let me get my shoes and board first.

[ She hops off the couch and pads away. Shoes at the front door, skateboard on top of a kitchen counter. ]

Okay, ready.

Cool.

[ Jenny gestures her closer before she turns and seemingly speaks to the air, enunciating the one word she says with careful precision: ]

Door.

[ And the golden light reappears. ]

[ Jesse is suitably impressed. ]

Woah. That part of your century powers?

[ Jenny seems entertained by that. ]

Nah. I can teleport if I want, but it's less effort for the Carrier to do it for me. She can transport anybody this way, as long as I tell her they're alright.

[ She gestures for Jesse to follow her as she steps into the light. ]

C'mon.

[ When they emerge on the other side, they'll be on the Carrier-- Jenny's spaceship. ]

So you have a ship that's alive.

[ She follows Jenny into the light and tries really hard not to let her eyes bug out at the sight of the Carrier. ]

[ Jenny's a casual sort of proud. Like a high schooler whose dad just bought her a new car for her birthday. ]

She's probably the size of a small town. Great fucking view, too.

[ She drapes a friendly arm over Jesse's shoulder. ]

You can come hang whenever you want. Long as you don't mind my old man and Han Solo lurking around.

[ She looks up at Jenny, a little surprised by the friendly arm. ]

Wait, seriously? You know you're pretty much like giving me the keys to your house. ...Your town sized outer-space mind house.

[ Jesse can probably feel Jenny shrug. ]

Sure. Why the fuck not? [ dry: ] You're not like a serial killer or anything, are you.

[ She snorts. ]

Pft no. I got way better things to do than be some creep with an axe or something.
