[When the camera flips on, there's a fair bit of chaos going on. Flashes of a middle-aged woman in a black trench coat can be seen, as well as a column of earth that seems to appear from nowhere and is subsequently kicked into an approaching vampire. Finally things settle down, and the woman glares into the camera with mild irritation.]

I guess law and order is just a suggestion around here.

[She's cut off by another vampire approaching from behind. Her comm is shaky, but it certainly looks like a cable of some sort just shot out of her sleeve, wrapped around the vampire, and hurled it a couple blocks down the street.]

And I bet getting back to Republic City is out of the question. Where are the police?

[There is a rock man covered in vampires.]

Oh, they're probably gettin' their ass kicked somew-okay, one second.

[And then he suddenly drops his comm and explodes into a spray of debris, blasting the vampires away.

And then nothing.

And then his head pops out of the ground.]

There we go.

[Okay, now that takes her by surprise for a second. A vampire almost gets the drop on her, only to realize that she's got a very solid metal collar on. He's whipped away by a cable a second later.]

What are you.

A mutant. [DUH. His body is reforming itself out of the sidewalk and scattered rock bits, and soon he has a hand to pick the comm back up.] You're new, right?

...Your body's made of earth. [Never quite seen anything like that. It's both strange and intriguing. Like some sort of weird self-destructive earthbending.]

Yeah. I'm Lin Beifong.

Yep! That's my mutant power. Cool, huh?

[The name makes him stop bragging for half a second, and stroke his chin with his other newly reformed hand.]

Beifong? Huh. Feel like I should know that name.

It's... interesting.

[An approaching monster gets stopped by a slab of sidewalk that just flips over onto him.]

My mother was famous back home. Toph Beifong. But you probably wouldn't know her here.
