[The video opens with Mordin and Peter smiling at the camera, apparently in a lab of some sort. Given the height difference between them, Mordin is stooping a bit and Peter is kind of on his tiptoes to get them both in frame.]

Have announcement to make. Culmination of joint project. Upgrade to communicators. Could change the way Port-outs are handled.

[Peter rolls a small, penny-sized disc across his knuckles, then catches it between his first two fingers and holds it closer to the camera.]

What we have here is a sensor which, when attached to your communicator --

[He peels a little film off the back of the disc with his fingernail, grabs a comm from offscreen, then sticks the disc to the back of the comm, turning it so viewers can see how it’s attached.]

Calibrated to particular form of energy emitted by Porter. Very distinct. Records on communicator as well as sending signal. Should eliminate uncertainty after disappearance.

Right. [He nods.] No more worries whether your friend has been sent back to their home or if they’ve vanished off the face of the Earth for, well, an entirely different reason. Or that’s the idea, anyway.

[As Mordin taps his chin:] Of course, can’t entirely account for Lachesis. No way to tell if she’d be able or inclined to sabotage upgrade. More research required.

That’s where you guys come in.

Asking for test volunteers. Would receive upgrade, allow us to see whether sensor works after Port-out.[Pause, blink.] Obviously, don’t hope to see you Ported away. Unless you want to return home. In that case, wish you luck.

[It sounds like Mordin’s getting on a roll, so Peter interjects hastily:] Either way, if you’re interested, speak up in the comments or you can reach us privately through either one of our comms. And thanks for participating in the scientific method. [Yes, he said that in complete earnestness.]

More or less. Splurged a little on the casing. Needs to be durable, considering what Imports and communicators go through. Also needed to invent a few things to detect Porter energy.

Costs relatively low, considering ambition of project. Expect them to increase once testing concludes and full distribution begins. However, not worried about adversely affecting Global Dynamics. Benefit to community worth the expense.

Well, this is exactly the sort of innovation the company's looking for, so I doubt Amanda would mind footing the bill. Porter energy must be a difficult thing to capture, however. You must have been clocking overtime trying to catch the moments when and where it arose!

Intensely so. Difficult to survey Porter directly considering Lachesis' temperament. Hard to localize energy outside of building due to unpredictable nature. Mainly worked off readings taken on omni-tool just before unexpected 'trip' to Isle Francis.

When was that, exactly?

Though it does raise the question of how this may respond to false-positives. I've had two cases over the summer where she's whisked me away somewhere that wasn't home.

Immediately after being Ported back in. Thought Lachesis' defenses might be lower after Port-in, tried to run up-close scans, maybe acquire samples. Her response... problematic. Still got some usable data, however.

False-positives also problematic. Hadn't considered it. Aware Porter most likely responsible for unexpected trip to 'Hell' earlier. [He actually makes air-quotes.] What was the other case?

Back in June, just after prom. I was suddenly stranded in San Francisco with a couple of others, but we made our way back eventually.

San Francisco? Odd choice of destination. Theories on what could have prompted this?

I'm not entirely privy to the catalyst, but it didn't seem like an especially isolated incident. Groups of imPorts suddenly found themselves scattered across the world, with our communicators disabled.

Maybe she was bored. Maybe she wanted to shake things up, get us back on task.

Hm. Possibility of central objective for us unlikely, judging by previous behaviour. Can't imagine what task she would want us to get back to. Think boredom more likely explanation.

[Sniff] Deeply irresponsible use of power, regardless. Troubling.

She wants us to be heroes. If she found us to be too idle, maybe that would inspire her to take action. No question it's an abuse, but that's not really new for Lachesis, in my consideration.

[Nodding] Logical conclusion.

At any rate- can provide both sensor and spare next time you're at the Clinic. Look forward to your thoughts.
