This is likely already common knowledge to any who are familiar with him, but at this point I think it would be safe to conclude that Ron Weasley has returned home. To any who were closely acquainted with him, you have my condolences.

So, unfortunately, this renders mine the primary income to a household of six, which may necessitate an expansion of that. This season does tend to create a greater need with the increases in consumption that the holidays bring with them, so I may have a fair amount of options that won't use my age as an obstacle. Assuming I can balance my schedule between that and my education...or maybe I'll simply need to drop that one.

Most are of equivalent age, if a little younger. But their own educations are of a higher priority to me. I suppose they may seek work within what time those schedules allow, but if that should prove not to be enough, I'll need to be prepared.

They should procure a job, nevertheless. It would be unfair for you to carry all the responsibilities of maintaining a household.

I'm not overly concerned with fairness so much as sustainability. I can tolerate it if it should keep our livelihood stable.

Don't most Earth households have a primary head responsible for providing the majority of the income?

Perhaps, but they are also adults. Your situation is hardly equivalent.

I don't really see the difference. I'm capable of meeting our needs just as well as any of them would be.

And I would be better equipped to do so if I were not barred from participating in the workforce to my fullest. Age is such an irrelevant quality to limit someone for.

I understand that living by human laws can be fastidious, but following such things is a necessity for living among them.

Though I imagine the City would be quite different under Alternian law, as well. It's difficult to imagine that either would serve us.

Well, probably only within the limits of my caste, so I could have joined the brooding caverns if...they still existed.

Any services on my planet would have been, by necessity, done through either automation or conscription. But if they limited the conscription age the way they do here, there simply wouldn't have been anyone available!

To me it seems counter-productive to impose limits such as caste when numbers require even the young to work, but to each their own.

Well, that's just it, most of the adults were off-planet, and those that remained weren't placed in any position to interact with us. We wouldn't generally assume our proper roles until we were sent ourselves to join the Empire, but there were duties on the surface to see to until that time came.
