Tell me, network, what do you think of when I say "law"? Alternatively, how do you view the law here?

Also, hello, I'm back. Actually, I have been back for a few days but upon my return I discovered I had far more homework than I remember having. Isn't that always the worst?

Metricog was quite interesting, wasn't it? I would like to start a petition that all City Hall members begin carrying bandaids on their person. Please think of the young girls who may or may not skin their knees in alternate universes in the future.

Kanaya -- are you free tonight? There was something I wanted to give a few days ago, but naturally what with my being away and coming back, I've had some ... work matters to catch up with and also far more homework than should be lawfully allowed.

[ the door opens, kanaya loks up at it like she's been caught in the act. on some level, she has been. she did not ring the doorbell. she should have waited by the bushes.

an eternity seems to pass before she has the presence of mind to do anything. she turns off her phone and drops it in her purse, turning to properly face rose and straightening her posture. should she have brought flowers? maybe she is still a little overdressed. ]

[rose has no idea what to do with this ridiculous girl. she steps aside to let her inside, mostly looking baffled and amused. ]

That would depend on what you mean by "this whole time". Such a vague collection of time could really be anything!

[ she fidgets a moment before following rose in, but stops not more than five feet through the door to turn around to face her again. only she doesn't really face her, she looks at the floor. ] I just...got distracted. That's all that happened.

[rose tries not to smirk. rose actually smirks a lot. ]

I'm...better.

[ and as she says it, she realizes how true it really is. the dark days of february are behind them, and things over this past week have already improved. she had a good talk with nepeta that was long in coming, she's heard from karkat, jenny isn't dead anymore, and she's started sleeping properly again. then there's that rose isn't gone forever, that she's here tonight.

things are starting to settle, and she's deeply grateful for that. ]

I've been in touch with people I needed to be. I think the future looks favorable at the moment.

Well that sounds refreshingly positive.

[Rose leads her to her room. She does not trust that Dave has not set up firecrackers somewhere in the house. Rose is not entirely sure how she feels today; nervous, mostly. She is sure Kanaya will like the gift. She is not sure how she will react to receiving it. ]

[ she follows tentatively, with no small amount of nervousness herself. rose said she'll like whatever it is that's waiting for her, but the mystery's still a little daunting. ...and it's been a while since she's been in rose's room. not since october. ]

I think a period of darkness necessitates one of light to follow. Something to send the accumulated shadows into hiding.

Though it may have taken a while yet to fully shine until now.

[Rose sits down on her bed. The gift is not subtle at all. Rose pats the spot beside her. ]

[ kanaya takes a seat on the bed, reeling with anticipation and anxiety. she got her a gift and wrapped it in pink paper. she should have brought flowers, at the very least. she bites her lip as she pulls the paper away, careful not to tear it, but the contexts...aren't really what she'd expected. her eyes go wide and her eyebrow shoots up. ]

Miss Lalonde, are you... [ somewhere along the way a connection is made, an uncertain smirk curls its way on her lips. ] Are you trying to get me drunk?

No -- well.

[Rose turns a little red. ] Kate suggested going to the blood bank? But I thought, asking for blood would have seemed really strange, especially for Valentines day?

SO this seemed like a good alternative. It is very easy to fake your age online.

[ is that... is she...? wow. kanaya isn't sure she's ever actually seen this happen before, rose being the flustered one for a change. of course she handles it with more grace, no stammering or shutting down. she wants to laugh, but that would be as rude as mentioning her preference for red wine.

instead, she leans over and kisses her on the cheek. ]

[ glasses sound wonderful. she wonders what it will be like to drink gold flakes. she wonders how much they cost. she still doesn't know what pink will taste like. ]

[she's gone and back within in minutes, with two glasses. ]

[ she's been idly sniffing at the contents while waiting, trying to see if she could determine anything from it. alas, she is not terezi, it is still full of mysteries. ]

Good. I hate for you to be sacrificing anything on my account. [ she turns her attention from the bottle back to rose, quickly qualifying that: ] Not that I don't appreciate it, of course!

[ and she goes ahead and fills both glasses before replacing the cap. but she isn't sure how to put it down, with the bottom as narrow as it is. she places it on the bed awkwardly, hoping it won't leak. ]

[rose's bed has seen worse things than a little spilled vodka. ]

Don't be silly. It's a gift, you shouldn't think so hard on it.

Well, gifts aren't a thing I've ever made a habit of receiving! If there's some sort of etiquette I'm missing due to that, I do apologize.

[ she takes a sip and backs away from it immediately in surprise. she didn't expect it to be carbonated. ]

[rose thoughts: adorable. too adorable. only possible way to be more adorable is if she were to sneeze into drink. ]
