❝ the lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, o lord, endures forever. do not forsake the work of your hands. ❞
psalms

do you actually believe that, though? do you believe in destiny or do you believe that it is our own? discuss.

also, since we're having a deep conversation. google would have made my life a whole lot easier if it had existed in the 1800s. then again there would not be young men saying that they love vintage victorian erotica more than the mainstream kind (here's a hint: it's still erotica).

if you're a really old guy wearing a hood over your head, you owe me a saturday night for the one you ruined. cash only.

(ooc: sorry, this got really NSFW)

[ Give him a few to process that. ]

--wow. So much for people being prudes back then.

Did he really need that many words to say he popped a boner?

Haven't even heard of it. [ Reading? Bradbury? Hah. It's not that he's illiterate, but who's got the time for that shit with the hours he keeps? Though to be fair, the job has a lot of downtime. ] You don't think it's worth a read?

Keeping things simple works for me.

I figure if someone's actually getting laid, they'd be too busy to write about it. So you might be onto something there.

[ a nearly audible wince. ]

That an excerpt?

I don't do a lot of reading. [ He pauses, but when he speaks again, he has to grin. ]

Hey, if you've got something against how people like writing their porn, maybe you should have a crack at it yourself.
waiting: (cause there's something in here)

Why not?

[ he doesn't even really know why he's encouraging the idea, but... ]

What's the worst that could happen?

You tell me. You're the one who said there are people out there who like vintage Victorian erotica.

Yeah, but you don't need to be impressed by someone to make money off them. There's a sucker born every minute.

You've got a lot of free time, don't you?

You'd think having someone's hand on your tits would be hard to miss.

Uh -- gently, I guess?

[ what is he even supposed to answer that with... ]

If the rest of the book reads like that, I'm not exactly sure who their target audience is supposed to be.

[ Somewhere in the middle of all that, Bradbury's ears just start shutting Cross out. Act of self preservation, man. ]

You know how creepy it sounds when reading that out loud, right? [ The pop and hiss of carbonation suggest that he wandered off to grab a beer at some point. ]

Is the narrator a man or a woman? Because what's being "opened up completely", to paraphrase, isn't from the front.
enigmaestro: (And futhurmore.)

[personal profile] enigmaestro 2013-05-09 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
The superficial detail in that regard leaves a lot to the imagination. The narrator seems almost, well, virginal. It seems to be their first night engaged with the man -- or, perhaps, ever.

Maybe the author is projecting? Such would explain the, ah, open-ended queries.
enigmaestro: (Old sport.)

Oh, cutting. I wonder -- have you read all of it? Genuinely curious.
