That porter is quite an intriguing device. Programed incorrectly, but intriguing nonetheless. For one thing, emotions are what allow you to tell the difference between desirable and undesirable things.

It's only the fear of death that keeps you from runnin' along the edge of a cliff, for example.

Running along the edge of a cliff would be- in most cases, illogical. Fear is not required to realize that such an action is not in your best interests.

You would take into account the size of the cliff, calculate the survival rate, action, reaction time, surroundings, reason, everything. The resulted equation would spell termination, and thus you would not do it. Not because of fear. Simply because that would just be stupid. Fear could lead to panic, which could be the very cause of death.

Clarity of thought.

Emotions often interfere with clear thinking. They can cause you to be reckless. What may have proved to be a great strength one moment, serves as a greater weakness overall.

And the wish to avoid death isn't emotional?

I'm sure in your case it is emotional.

And yours isn't?

You know, people without emotions can't make decisions.

As they have no place in logic, I made sure that I had none.
