Some people are so peculiar about wishes.

That's not what this is just about. Is it? Not merely a reminder, as you said before you could make just a reminder an easy punishment.

I'm not interested in punishing you, Edward.

Apparently not. [He sucks in a breath, then exhales. His body tingles.]

Which I find very interesting. [He said, walking over to the chair that contained Desire. He placed one hand on either of the armrests and leaned closer to it.]

[Desire looks up, and the smile is sharper than it was before]

I suppose it should be. To be favored of Desire and suffer nothing for the honor.

Mm, true. That's a rather exceptional situation, isn't it?

[Desire isn't in the chair, then, it's on the desk, just out of reach again]

And I won't be the last. [Another smug smile. He doesn't move away.]

I'm probably not even alone in the City.

He knows he's playing with fire, he simply thinks he can escape with minor burns.

Which I mean to say, we're not here to amuse you, really. [He brings his nose very near to its, eyes staring.]

There are other little entertainments.

[It's like being within striking distance of a snake. Desire's hand suddenly grips Eddie's wrist, just three fingertips, but it's like an iron vice. The burn of want is almost painful in that spot. Desire's grasp has always been intoxicating, but this is toxic.]

You are all here to amuse me. The only distinction is that I have been kind to you and I have been even kinder to your ward.

[The feeling is overwhelming: a sensation otherworldly, hinging on agony and craving and a burning not quite physical. It overwhelms his senses and brings him to his knees.

His power, to some degree, depends on his ability to feel. Physically feel. When he's physically overwhelmed or numbed, the tingles of falsehood get swallowed and he cannot rely on the messenger of his flesh and nerves.

He thought he felt the falsehoods, but it was impossible to clearly discern. Not when Desire had him by the wrist.]
