[Jade nods, smiling brighter.] Yup! Humans sleep at night and do all the fun stuff during the day. Or so I've be lead to believe.

Living on a island away from civilization has meant not really knowing how other people live.

That's totally the opposite of how it is on Alternia! That's so interesting!

...why did you live there?

The island had a bunch of old ruins and Grandpa enjoyed exploring and discovering. We probably would have moved somewhere else, in time, if he hadn't died. [She smiles fondly as memories of the old man surface.]

[Jade nodded. It was kind of her fault as well as Tavros' but no need to get into that.] But in a way he was always still around. And I had Bec to look after me.

And the other one... was the barkbeast, right?

[Jade simply nods. Some people find the whole stuffed dead family member thing a little morbid.]

We call them dogs, but yes that was Bec.

..."dogs." *She repeats the name a few times, rolling it around in her mouth to try and get a feel for it.* That's a weird name.

[Jade giggles and settles on the bench beside Feferi.]

I guess it is pretty weird. But it's a lot less literal than 'barkbeast'.

Trolls like literal names! It means that you understand more about it without having to waste all your time learning?

[Jade giggles again.] That's kind of silly but I guess, in a weird way, it kind of makes sense.

It abshoalutely makes sense! There are a lot of really neat things about troll culture... but now that I'm here I guess I'll learn a lot more about human culture too!

[Jade's ears flick back and forth as she thinks about it. After a few moments she shrugs.] I'm sure they're doing quite well.

How many of them did you know, anyway? I lost track of who was glubbing to who!

[dogwitch]

[Jade pushes back her hood and gives her head a shake.] You know, I'm not sure. I spoke with several of them but most were just brief conversations.

Well, what were the colors? We're all color-coded! It's really convenient!

[dogwitch]

[She gives a sheepish laugh.] See my memory isn't the best so I don't really remember. I do remember talking to Karkat and Kanaya. Tavros too. And you, of course.

That's a good mix, though! You have crabby, kindly, shy, and best of all, ME!

[dogwitch]

[She giggles.] I guess so!

[She looks around the park again and can't help the low growl that bubbles up in her throat when she spots a nearby squirrel.]

*Following Jade's gaze...* What'd that bushtailbeast ever do to you?

[dogwitch]

[Jade blushes and her ears slide back, making her look like a dog that's just been scolded.]

N-nothing. It's just a habit that comes from Bec. I get all these urges to do things that dogs do...

So why don't you do them? It's not like I'll make fun of you for the halibut!

[dogwitch]

Well...because I'm not a dog? Part dog maybe but... [Plus there's the fact it's really embarrassing when people stare.]
