I think... I actually miss my brother.

We would go months and months without seeing each other and that was okay because he was off pretending to be the leader of every X-team known to man but now that I had him here in the City I got used to him being around. Even though he was extremely annoying with his old fashioned sayings-- who says "Rode hard and put up wet, hayuck"? Really?-- and he was always butting into my personal life but... I don't know.

Ah didn't think Ah would feel this bad.

[There's a few seconds where Jill is just sort of looking at the camera and biting her lip. She looks a little frazzled. Then the video shuts off and it switches to voice.]

There has to be someone else here that . . . Reads minds. It's loud and it was bad enough - [pause. uh, shouldn't talk about that.] It was bad enough without all the panic and I haven't exactly figured out how to shut it off or turn it down, yet. Could someone teach me, please?

[there's silence, like she's done, before she speaks again]

And because I don't know what else to do, if I wanted to . . . contain myself for a couple of days, how would I go about doing that? [there's a sharp intake of breath and a soft ow.] It's not that I'm dangerous to other people, I'm just deeply worried about my safety.

[Garrus is apparently patrolling, carrying the comm lazily in one hand and barely looking at it. He's getting just as many looks as you'd think he would. He glances back sidelong before sitting down on a bus stop bench, ignoring the fact that the twelve year old boys sitting beside him are staring intently at his face. He's not wearing his blue armor today, but something more casual that still looks official srs bzns, apparently something he's had specially tailored.]

I've got some free time coming up - and I've been thinking about that trip to the firing range I arranged not too long ago. It's been...a stressful week - for all of us. I don't know about any of you, but I could use some relaxation.

...It might not be the most routine way to relax, but it's familiar. And otherwise I'll just end up patrolling or doing more work - I wouldn't want to run out for any time in the future when I want to bury myself in it.

[A slight chuckle, though it's a little dry. He glances offscreen, where two voices are raised in argument, the words barely registrable as a couple's, but hesitantly glances back to the comm - the kids are still staring, and he glances at them too for a moment until they try to pretend they were staring intently at something else.]

...Anyway, the range is at [LOCATION]. I was thinking about going in the next couple of days, get used to this age's weaponry. Terrible recoil on these things. I-

[He starts again, but there's a sharp scream offscreen and Garrus' head instantly jerks towards it. The noise is louder and the shouting is distinctly male, while the subsequent yelps are female. His expression tightens noticeably and he drops the comm into the hands of one of the kids, warning them with a brusque "Don't run off with it or I'll have to come find you and your parents" and walks offscreen. The boy glances into the comm with his friends looking over his shoulder, before he abruptly turns it to face in the direction Garrus went. There's a man, enraged, slamming a terrified woman into a brick wall by the front of her shirt, screaming at her about marital problems - the comm can barely make out a black eye and some healing bruises here and there on her arms. He takes the time to glance at Garrus and get out "The hell do you want, freak-" before Garrus rips the man off the woman and slams him face-first into the wall, pinning him there easily with one arm. The man is shouting something but the comm can't quite catch it - Garrus' grip tightens.]

You don't know the meaning of 'police brutality'. This is nothing compared to what you probably deserve. As far as I'm concerned I'm being lenient. You're lucky this isn't the Purgatory, they'd have beaten you before you so much as got a sentence out. Ma'am, are you alright? I'm a police officer, there's...no reason to be afraid. Stay still, dammit - kicking me isn't going to make me turn you loose any time soon.

[The woman, battered, frightened, nods quickly. Garrus says something about a hospital visit, filing charges, while cuffing the man. She shakes her head, glances repeatedly at the man in Garrus' grip, and Garrus pauses.]

...It's your choice. But I still have to take him into custody - it's procedure. You can bail him out later, if that's really what you want.

[He then drags the man by the collar of his shirt across the street and in front of a small crowd from the nearby and very public park in handcuffs, getting the comm back from the somewhat awed kids.]

I'll be bringing this one with me on assault charges, even if she's not going to file them. And...I'll be walking, I'm still working on getting a license. Kick me one more time and I'm aiming for assaulting an officer, and believe me, I'll follow through. Be ready for me.

And that offer about the firing range still stands.

The public transportation in this city is chaotic. Disappointing. After seeing the grid of the streets, I expected more, but I shouldn't have. This is a wild city. Humans designed and built it, and inevitably it escapes from them.

I apologize to anyone who was alarmed by my last post on the network. There's no need to worry. If I was brought here to defend the citizens of this place, that is what I'll do. Regardless of the presence of the Mu factor. My authority to deal with that was left behind in my world.

I need to know how to reassign apartments in the M.A.C. There's an empty one near mine that I'd like to have assigned.

[The video shows Sam with his serious leader face on, outside the porter building. He has his goggles on, and though he's trying not to look it, it's obvious he's been through a fight. New Mutants should know this is also the face of something bad/big having just happened.]

Yanno, the porter coulda picked a better time to--At least Hodge is dead again. At least there's that.

[Boy's not that happy to be back, but he hides that, and just keeps on his leader face.]

So...what did I--Ah miss?

So I know a lot of people here don't like it in the City. Which I gotta be honest, I don't fully get - I love it here. I'd stay here for the rest of my life if I could. This place is super awesome. But I guess not everyone sees it that way. So here's a question: if you could bring back one thing from your world, but only one, what would it be? What's the one thing that means the most to you? This can be anything, including people

Me? I'd bring my little brother back with me.

[Filtered from Ness]

Oh, by the way...if you know Ness, his birthday is Thursday night. We're having a surprise party for him, so if you're his friend, please come. ...Uh, not that I'll be there. I've totally got more important things to do on Thursday.

[identity profile] holycablechrist.livejournal.com
I have been here for over a year through two bases and a shifting team. Every weekend there is a catastrophe; a lot like home (both in the future and the present), but in over a year, nothing has changed--just like home.

Off the Gulf coast, an oil rig exploded; eleven men missing. The U.S. government has just unveiled a new hi-tech one-hundred dollar bill that will begin circulation in February of next year. The Pope promises to confront the child molestation allegations against the clergy (let's see how long this lasts). Two confirmed dead in a hospital shooting in Tennessee. Numerous weather ailments have plagued the Earth from Chile to China since the beginning of this year. French President Sarkozy calls for a ban of the Muslim veils being worn in public.

History repeats itself. Racism, sexism--prejudice still blares high in modern society. There's monsters, mad men, sociopaths, and more out there terrorizing this City every week, but there is a whole world being confronted with the same problems and we're turning a blind eye.

A few years back, I created a safe haven--a utopia, if you will, called Providence where refugees from numerous countries were welcomed. Tolerance was the golden rule. Violence immediately resulted in a boot in the ass from me to you. Governments were scared of me. The X-Men were sent after me. I tried to hold onto this semblance that I was doing something right by Providence, until it was ultimately taken down, out of my hands.

I set out on a new mission, but that's back in my own world and not here.

For the most part, I have sat around and reverted back to my old days of mercenary work and various vigilante activities when the situation called for it. It's left me empty--unfulfilled.

From here on out, I'm disbanding X-Force and renouncing my membership in the X-Men. I'm packing my bags and leaving the City for the Democratic Republic of the Congo tomorrow night. I will not sit here and wait for the Big Bads to swoop down for us to fight again. I respect the work of our professors raising and educating the kids, but there is more for a lot of us out there.

What is, is.

[The communicator sounds as though it's moving, with air rushing against the speaker... and the sound of rolling wheels underfoot. They come skidding to a halt, and the person on the other end seems to wait a moment before speaking into the device.]

...This is unexpected.

[Said in a boyish voice, on a perfectly calm, smoothed-over tone, though there's a hint of dissatisfaction to it. So much for that riding duel... inwardly, he's actually fighting a great deal of frustration at this unanticipated obstacle, but nothing of that is audible in his words. He decides to put the demeanor of the impeccable transfer student back on for now, and so his speech almost sounds a little pretentious at first.]

So, since this looks like some kind of phone or communication device, I think I'll take a chance and ask anyone who may be listening: what is it, exactly, the person who brought me here wants from me? "Heroism"? Well, that's a little vague, isn't it? I don't think I'd be any good at that.

[He sounds flatly modest, as though saying so for a reason he'd rather not admit to. The rolling sound starts again, similar to the wheels of a skateboard. The rolling soon halts again, but only because the boy has just made a jump of some sort, and lands with a clack and further rolling of wheels on pavement. Suddenly, a car horn honks, and tires screech in the background. Luciano banks to the side with a clatter, riding away with a sigh.]

Jerk. Some people... do drivers in this place often not look where they're going? They ought to know boarders have the right of way.

...Ah, on a similar note, has anyone seen Ruka-chan or Rua-kun? I'd seen them practicing from the road up above and I was about to go down to join them... I suppose this machine had other plans, though.

[A total lie, but you couldn't tell he wasn't sincere just from listening to him, because he certainly sounds friendly enough. His next few lines are rather soft and somewhat distant.]

Interesting thing, that is. Does Momentum really have the capacity to power something like that...?

Anyway, my name is Luciano, and I recently transferred into the branch of Duel Academia in Neo Domino City. If anyone could please fill me in on what's going on here and where my friends are, I would be... much obliged.

We never really got to talk the other night. We should, now that there's a bit more time.

You mentioned that you worked with Batman - which one? Because the only other one I know never mentioned you.

[ooc: lol let's all pretend that blue doesn't fail and didn't forget about this until now, yup. Also while we're at it let's backdate this a couple days.]

[ Allison's sitting in front of the camera pretty casually, in civies, but she has her cowl on. ]

So you know, I've been doing some digging around on these things, and this HIVE place? Sounds pretty wicked, doesn't it?

Has anyone tried to move out there? It'd be better than living here, and there you wouldn't have to worry about getting caught by any "heroes" [ Complete with air quotes! ] or even the police.
[identity profile] medea-recast.livejournal.com
Well, this place certainly keeps itself busy, zombies, vampires, what's next - evil robots? Aliens? Demons?

[There's a rueful chuckle.] Alright, bad joke there, I know. Sue me.

But speaking of busy, I'd like to be busier and unfortunately I've run into a bit of a roadblock. See, banks here won't make business loans to imPorts, I can see why, makes sense, but I've never been one to take handouts and as much as I enjoy my job, I'd like to work for myself. As a pilot, I can freelance only so much, if I really want to work for myself, I need my own wings.

So I know some of our kind have made something of themselves here, so I guess... I'm looking for someone to give me a loan, or barring that, investing in a small air freight company.

I'm a damn good pilot and I put together a decent business proposal so if you're interested, I'd like to speak to you.

Everything go well? I saw some of the news coverage, you looked good.

[ooc: Maddie really is looking to start a business, so if you're interested, she'd love to do business with you. Also, feel free to ask if that was really her in the background of Osborn's post here.]

[ Robyn is standing on a pier overlooking the Hudson River. Behind her, filling the screen, is the formerly flying nightclub, Turing. The scorched and battered zeppelin is sitting half in the river, and is obviously not going anywhere under its own power anytime soon. Little machines are crawling around here and there, occasionally stopping to make a weld or test a seam. Robyn looks like she's carefully holding in anger, tears, or both. ]

Hi, City. First I want to thank Mr. Hundred for his help with...keeping Turing from taking a dive into anyone's house last Friday. Unfortunately we couldn't work out a perfect landing. My guys have been fixing it up, but, well. We weren't expecting a full-on missile bombardment when Tank and I drew up the defense specs.

If I inflate the envelope she'll lift, but the gondola took structural damage when she hit the riverbank. I'm afraid it'll crack when it comes out of the water, and if the frame cracks in flight she'll tear in half.

So, I need some help. I need either flyers who can support the gondola while I pilot it in for repairs, or a few engineers to help me with a patch job.

Or, well, I guess a demolitions expert to help me take her apart so I can use trucks. But I'd really like to... not do that.

I don't have a ton of ready cash, but I can offer shares in the business if-- when we reopen. Or an apartment on board. Can't beat the view, honestly.

Anyway, thanks for your time.

Tank, this is all sort of assuming I can use the hangar - is that okay?

Well. It's just been brought to my attention that it was exactly one stellar cycle ago that I first landed in this place. That's one whole year, by your human standards, that I've been stuck in this worthless human body. I'm still cleaning up whenever idiots try to blow up the prisons. I'm still putting up with my troops' insistance on letting furry creatures live in the base. And I'm still getting brought back to this place time and time again while certain other people go home and actually get to stay there.

...This has been the most useless stellar cycle of my entire life.

[Private to Starscream]

I might just take you up on that beer.

Say… is anyone actually organizing the whole reconstruction business?

I mean, I'm trying… but walking up to random people on the streets doesn't work well when you have problems with the language… so I thought I'd try asking here. [He shrugs slightly.] So… is there anywhere I can sign up at or something to help out?

It's not like I have super strength or anything like that to back me up but… I'd really like to do something anyway… 'specially after being so useless during the mess. [Crow frowns; he doesn't look all too satisfied with himself. Then he shakes his head slightly and the frown changes into an easy grin.]

On a bit lighter note: is anyone up for a duel or two this weekend?

[Filtered to Kiryu]

This kinda might seem very out of the blue, but how much do you know about D-Wheel-construction?

[Filtered to Kaiba; viewable to Ruka, Rua and Kiryu]

I meant to ask before, but stuff kept getting in the way. Anyway… Ruka told me that you asked the twins to help make cards from our time. Which is totally great and all… [A grin flickers over his face, he really likes the idea of getting some more cards of their time.] …but leaves me with one super important question:

[He takes a deep breath.] Has anyone told you anything about 'Riding Duel'?

[ooc: All replies are video, unless stated otherwise.]
