[ Wow, it's a VIDEO. A great start into technological competence, indeed. Faintly in the background, this music is playing… but at first, all that's visible is a placard that reads, in very carefully written print:

STAY SAFE!
FIGHTING CRIME?
MAKE SURE YOU'RE TRAINED!
WORK WITH A PARTNER!
ORGANIZATION IS IMPERATIVE!!

The placard is removed and someone steps back; the communicator is propped up somewhere, stationary, displaying a view of Riverside Park. In-frame is Hooded Justice, joined shortly by Nelson in his Captain Metropolis costume. He's got his mask in his hand.
]

Good evening! To those of you who don't know me, I'm Nelson Gardner, alternatively known as "Captain Metropolis"; I've forgone my right to maintain a secret identity so that me and my associate Hooded Justice here might better demonstrate the importance of safety when it comes to standing up to crime. It isn't as easy as it looks. More important than will is know-how -- watch what could happen to the under-prepared would-be hero.

[ He doesn't speak immediately, though there's the very, very faint sound of the radio in the background. A breath is drawn and when he does finally talk he sounds some combination of very concerned and upset while also trying not to be. ]

Um -- uh -- hello. I wouldn't normally use this thing for such a simple question, but I figured this would be the fastest way to get a real answer, since-- well, I know that protocol here doesn't always allow for just calling the police.

So: Has anyone else disappeared... recently? Unaccounted for?

[ He clears his throat and there's a pause as he takes a drink of something. ]

You see, I can't reach my friend Sally. [ Another pause. ] Jupiter. She's not normally very difficult to get ahold of, but it's no use. Now, my coworkers went missing for about a week last month without any warning, and they're all back now. But they weren't alone, either, and I know -- I know that these things can depend on if they're individual or en masse. That is, it's what I've heard.

But if anyone has seen her... or heard from her... I'd just like to make sure she's all right. I want to ensure that--

[ You don't want to know how many times he's tried calling her to bring him to the conclusion that, yes, something may be wrong. Like. It was a lot of times. Just in case: ]

Sally, if you're listening to this, I really hope you aren't just avoiding me.

[ It's Nelson again!! This time in audio form!! And despite his ENTHUSIASTIC CAPSLOCK from before, vocally he's rather soft-spoken. Timid, even. ]

Hello everyone, I trust you're all doing well. There was some -- well... I won't comment at length, I'm not really sure what the trouble was [ Re: shadow plot ], but I'd hope everyone was back to normal by now. I imagine it was awfully unpleasant.

[ He really has no idea what that was, nor what else to really say about it. But he had to acknowledge it somehow. ]

... That said, uh, well, firstly, now that I've been here for a bit longer now I think I'm comfortable reiterating that -- that it is impressive how ordered it is around here, despite all the disorder. All things considered it really could be a lot worse. I mean from strictly an observational point of view, mind you, I don't have any other stake in it than that. I do know service is an exhausting battle.

[ A pause. He really needs to shut up about that already. ]

Secondly, I know I'm not the first to mention it, but people are very excited about Valentine's Day, aren't they? [ He isn't but he won't admit as much. ] How do people celebrate these days? I can't imagine it being much different from in my day, but then again...

... Uh, n-nothing inappropriate, please.

[ He clears his throat, then is quiet again for another moment. ]

Oh, right. This is still Nelson, from before. I've finally figured out how to navigate beyond text on this machine, many thanks to everyone who... helped.
