[The feed clicks on to Tali wearing ... what appears to be a very fluffy purple housecoat. Her nose is red and there is a pile of kleenex littered around her.]

You know, it would just figure that I'd survive the apocalypse only to be struck down by a cold.

[Since she knows how that could sound to anyone who's -- aware of quarian physiology, she backpedals quickly.]

What I mean to say is that I'm experiencing what is colloquially known as a 'winter cold', and I'm sure I'll be fine in a few days.

Is the phlegm supposed to be green?

[She sneezes again, fumbling up to click the screen off. Nobody needs to watch her clean up her snot-spray.]

I don't suppose anyone has any spells for summoning electricity that they'd be willing to share. My electronics still aren't working on their own, I can't find Illidan, and I have popcorn that needs microwaving.

[ thoughtful pause! ]

He's not still dead, is he? It wouldn't surprise me. The Porter certainly takes her sweet time with resurrections.

Does anyone know if Edna Mode is still around? I haven't heard her on the network in awhile. Last time she was here she made me boots I could wear all winter and still see with, mostly, but they're getting pretty torn up and my feet got a bit bigger.

I need new boots that keep my feet warm, but they can't be thick.

Stupid cold.

[ look! it's a wet pug. except he's ever so slightly purple and in a bathtub. ]

So this little guy is now internet famous. As is our cat, Luke.

[ there's a pause as carol reaches out to scratch bee-pug behind the ears. ]

It's amazing, the things that are popular these days. Stupid videos of animals, Jersey Shore, Twilight... Maybe I'm getting old, but there's a part of me that just shakes my head at the stuff that gets put out. It's weird to think of books being stocked in a shelf labeled "Teenage Supernatural Romance."

But then I think of things like this one movie that's coming out, Red Tails, or this book that I read recently, though I can't remember the title, and I think maybe it's not as bad as it could be. There's always a balance between the crap and the good stuff.

[ another pause. carol stops scratching bee-pug's ears and he whines. she laughs quietly and starts it up again. ]

What do you think, City? Do you prefer the classics, or is there something to be said for modern entertainment? Soap operas need not apply, some of those have been around for longer than my mother's been alive.

Transience. That's what the problem boils down to.

You put so much time, so much energy into something, just to have it ssssssssssslip through your fingers! That's how the City works, isn't it? [ urp ] You can't expect any kind of...permanence here, just a handful of [ he slows down to stress each syllable, just to make sure he gets them all out ] ex-ten-ded ex-er-cis-es in futility. Really make a guy wonder why he should even bother.

[ sound of a swig being taken from a bottle, a swallow, a deep breath ]

I should've seen it coming.

[ pause ] ...Allison's gone, might've been for about a day now. I don't...I don't get the feeling she'll be back any time soon.
